Apple is going to invade your living room with the Mac Mini, Front Row software, DVR, iPod docking and the intelligent plasma display. The quality will be top-notch; their LCDs are already known to be the very best in the industry.

I hope this really happens.

Meanwhile, HardDrive reboots his machine to install the latest MSFT WMF patch that would've been sent out tomorrow, but popular uproar forced MSFT to release early...

Actually XP installs silently and reboots on its own. If you're working on the computer, it gives you a five minute warning.

XP servers?

nostatic 01-09-2006 03:17 PM

yeah, and some of our sys admins here are reporting BSODs after the patch.

BlueSkyJaunte 01-09-2006 03:19 PM

Excuse me, Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition...aka, "XP".

Nostatic: ROFL! Typical.

Bush hates BSOD. So does Bill.

Apple isn't going to invade anyone's anything if all those anyones don't choose to give Apple their money. all this talk about digital convergence is pretty neat from a techie perspective, but the reality is that companies have been pursuing this angle for some time now with no real results. I wouldn't mind a bit better connectivity between my pc and audio system (mainly for playing streaming audio) but am I going to go gaga over all that Apple has to offer? not hardly

Whatever happened to BEOS? Anyone remember that operating system?

BlueSkyJaunte 01-09-2006 06:50 PM

BeOS was the fastest f*cking thing I ever used.

Yeah, it was.

I hear it's just server software now. No real-world apps are available for it. I don't know. I haven't looked into BeOS for a very long time.

True, this is probably not a problem for Apple servers. Perhaps we should locate all 12 of them and find out. :p

No Intel Mini or plasma displays :( Guess we'll have to wait a few more months. The new products and software look great, though. All in all a nice event with great surprises. I predict great things for Apple this year. Had a little fun with the stock this morning. Made more %-wise in one hour buying and selling than I could expect annually on most real estate investments these days.

I'm taking my 15 year old son to MacWorld tomorrow. Our first time. He got a new Powerbook this Christmas - amazing OS. I had the first FatMac when I was in College. Nothing but windoze since then though.

The new iMac is going to smoke the rest of the desktop line...Apple better get in gear and move the rest of the lineup over to Intel.

Not that I don't like Apple as a company, it's just that I'm not delusional enough to pay that kind of premium. I bailed at $52.

I cover AAPL for my firm. We started buying at $7 split-adjusted, and have made 10X. I am wrestling with holding on for more vs taking the profit. It is a tough call, made tougher by the difference between short-term and long-term. The company is doing great and has the chance to be a real leader in consumer electronics, but the valuation reflects that. At $80 it is not the kind of stock that I usually win on, so I'm looking for the "next AAPL".

I highly recommend BlueSkyJaunte Corp. ;)

Yeah, I bought in the Winter of '82 or 83 and sold in the Summer. IIRC, it went from $10.XX to $62 in 6 months.

I've been in & out, but it's become much tougher since the institutions discovered it about 12-13 years ago.

Last Fall, I got in at $36 and sold at $52/54 -- don't recall exactly. To me $50 is an okay price to accumulate.

AAPL has always been an emotional buy to some players in the market, and right now, they're ignoring potential saturation of the $200+ player market; low margins on music sales and Apple's long history of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. YMMV
