http://www.powerpage.org/archives/2006/01/exclusive_apple_plasma_displays_to_rock_mwsf.html

Tuesday is the big day for announcements of new products at MacWorld. I'm loading up on AAPL. Should be interesting

I meant to go to MacWorld last year, my last chance while in the Bay Area, but didn't.

Every Mac user should attend at least once in his or her lifetime; I managed three.

Mac since 1984.

I've read Jason D. O'Grady's Mac pages off and on for ten or more years. I've always wondered: who pays him?

Me too. I was at the Mac introduction 1/17/84... and held out for all of 2 weeks afterward.

At the time, my largest client was Microsoft and they had shown me one of their development Macs in December '83. They had dedicated 1/2 their software development resources to Mac apps. They didn't think anyone in their right minds would want a PC after seeing a Mac.

They overestimated their audience.

In 1983, that was true. When a highschool friend got a Mac I was in awe. They really had something there for a short time.

But when did PCs eclipse Macs completely (except for the black turtleneck crowd and little kids/old ladies)? We found that the application gap really opened up in the early '90s, switched to PCs and never looked back.

I tried playing around with my 71 year old mother-in-law (ideal Mac user)'s new iMac and I have to say it's beautiful, but they really dropped the ball on the interface. She loves it though.

In terms of over/underestimating. Apple's computer division has always overestimated the market's desire for shiny stuff, and underestimated the market's need for forwards and backwards compatibility and the market's demand for a wide variety of applications.

Now that their business model is 90% shiny stuff, they seem to be doing much better.

I'm hoping for an Intel-based PB or iBook, but I'm *really* hoping for an Intel-based Mac Mini. I'm itching to build my own PVR but I don't want to base it on a G4 Mini or (heaven forfend) a Shuttle chassis-based Linux box.

re: HardDrive, why'd you even bother posting? Go drive your Beetle or something.

Ummmm....yeah. Plasma displays. New, advanced Plasma displays. So?

I'm also interested in the Mac-Intel powerbooks. Anyone know the latest on these? When will they be out?

Again: who pays O'Grady to write his columns? Apple?

What I like is the reference to WAWA. I am telling you the rest of the country really misses out not having one of these in their area. If there was WAWA stock avaliable it would kill AAPL! Exspecially when aaple is trading at 50 times trailing and 34 times forward earnings. If you are ever in Philly go to wawa and see how it ought to be. Also if everyone likes the apple / intel mix. Why don't you buy intel it is a heck of a lot cheaper than apple on a valuation basis.

If I had a lot of 'gambling money' handy now, I'd be buying AAPL puts.

Not that I don't like Apple as a company, it's just that I'm not delusional enough to pay that kind of premium. I bailed at $52.

I am an idiot. I read the article and still don't understand - despite being a professional programmer by trade. I got the WAWA reference since I am a Jersey native. But the rest is lost on me. So can anyone decode the bottom line for me? My best guess is that it is a 42"/50" plasma monitor for Apple computers and will cost just $25.99/$32.99. Am I reading that correctly?

Digital convergence - Intel has pushed it for a long time, MS tried it (HomePC anyone?) and now Apple's going to give it a shot. An Apple plasma in your living room, powered by Apple technology (licensed from Intel in part, from the looks of it) controlling your TV, stereo, Intenet, etc.

We'll see.

They have definitely become great innovators. Wow, their stock price is a little over $76 a share. I need to save a little more before I can buy in.

When I saw this thread, a particular movie came to mind, "Lieutenant Dan got me invested in some kind of fruit company. So then I got a call from him, saying we don't have to worry about money no more. And I said, that's good! One less thing. "

Thanks for the info, Richard.
