I remembered wanting a Tony Hawk skateboard so bad in like '85 or so. My parents wouldn't let me skateboard because it was dangerous...

It's all coming back. I had a Gordon & Smith (G&S) special issue Dennis Martinez Flying Acess Board that I bought in 1980 with Tracker Trucks and Kryptonic wheels. G&S has recently reissued the board now for $95! Wow.

My oldest son wanted a skateboard for Christmas and he picked out a World Industries board, Venture trucks and reissued G&S Yo-Yo wheels.

Since we are talking about the old days of skating--2 films any skater should see:
Dogtown and Z-Boys(the documenatry which Stacey Peralta made)
and Stoked, The Gator Story(another documentary about the rise and fall of Mark "Gator" Ragowski--very disturbing)

Powell Peralta boards were the *****.
My current deck is a Hook-Ups w/Hawk trucks/ slime ball wheels which is about 7 years old--bought complete on a whim while in Ocean City--was fun as hell skating down the boardwalk(also illegal--imagine that)

I do not belive that was the first gen Tony Hawk board. I had one and I don't remember the "nose" having that shape, mine was more uniform shaped.

Remember "Thrasher" the magazine? How about the Air Walks with the cover that was held on with velcro over the laces?

ohh the memories...

I think the uniformed shaped nose was after this model. These had the stuff called "Bonite" between the layers which was some kind of black sticky paper.
These Powell Peralta boards were noticeably heavier than any others I can remember from that era.

Thanks for the fun memories

funny... i've progressed from a Hosoi, to a Vallely, and ended w/ an H-Street board.

both of those 'documentaries' were great reminders of the times. too bad about Gator, I had no idea. Dogtown is more about the (re?)birth of the sport but Rise and Fall has all the usual suspects from those times. It was funny to see interviews w/ Lance Mtn and Co.

I know of the D'Town doc, but whats the other you mention with Gator and LM?

On a side note: my wife used to run around and vandalize/terrorize stuff with Mike V when she was around 12ish where they grew up together. She cringes every time she sees him on any of my sons games or videos or magazines.

I mentioned Animal Chin earlier.

I have it on VHS, lol CLASSIC skateboarding movie

"backside air, and method air, and ollie air, and COMB YOUR HAIR!"

My dad used to tell me stories about pacific ocean park back in the day, was very much locals only..

The Gator documentary is very good, by the way. Sad what happened to him.

old Vision street gear, lol, so many memories. Think i still have a pair of checkerboard Vans somewhere. Those were good times.

How many of you built quarter pipes? My dad taught me and my buddies how to lay veneer just so we could do it. He even rode it a few times...

I wish we had the modern day skateboard technology when I was a kid. Anyone remember the Nask and GT boards? These were my first boards wihout the clay wheels. With clay wheels you had to be good because any little pebble would send you flying.
