Movies where the sequel was as good as the original

I was talking about this with my brother, and Godfather 2 and the Evil Dead movies were the only ones we came up with, how 'bout y'all? anyone, Bueller?

Just watched "Batman Begins". It was by far much better than the previous ones (which were abysmal.)

Yup, Batman Begins was by far better than all before it. Possible exception is the first movie from 89 which was a good movie but apearantly not accurate to the comic. I am looking forward to the continuing story of Begins.

NOT The Road Warrior. The original Mad Max was so much better.

The Dirty Harry stories. Even tho Clint's heart wasn't in the sequels.

Mad Max is my all-time favorite movie, but I think the Road Warrior is just as good--lots of cool cars, crash scenes, humor, and a great ending w/the sand in the tanker.

Sub-par would be Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

well its not a sequal but The Exorcist III was just as good and even more scary / creepy than the original. But, you had to see the 1st to understand the 3rd. The 2nd Exorcist movie was one of the suck job films that they make raeal quick to ride on the fame of the 1st movie.

Movies where the sequel was as good as the original Unfortunately, very, very few... most of them are made for the money and not to make a better movie.

This is true with most modern studio movies where the sequels are planned from the beginning. The best chance for a sequel to be good is when a movie has a great premise, but an iffy script and low-budget corner cutting. Then the sequel is made based on the great idea, but with much better writing, production, etc.

How about where the REMAKE is as good or better than the original?

Sabrina. Maybe. The original was a campy gag movie, but it did have Bogie...

The Santa Clause 2 was great sequel for a Christmas movie. X-men 2 was quite good if not better than the first movie.

Star Trek 2, although Star trek 1 really sucked.

Beneath The Planet Of The Apes

Empire Strikes Back

Godfather 2 is pretty much the greatest sequel of all time.

"You're nothing to me now. You're not a brother, you're not a friend. I don't want to know you or what you do. I don't want to see you at the hotels, I don't want you near my house. When you see our mother, I want to know a day in advance, so I won't be there. You understand? "
