You need a motorcycle.

Get a bike and get out on the road. I took an entire month off and went coast to coast and back with a couple of buds. Best time of my life, best time to gain perspective on where you are and where you want to go - 7000 miles in one month and lots of alone time in your helmet. The people you meet and the people you go with along the way will become life long friends and memories will last forever. Nothing like hurtling down a wide open road at 150+ to clear out the head and put it all in perspective. -Jeff |
I see a lot of people in this world who make tons of money, have some incredible cars, go to exotic places, do things I've dreamed of doing, and yet they seem to always be looking for something to keep them busy (happy). Girlfriends come and go. People get divorced, remarried, and divorced again. More booze. Faster cars. Hotter women. Yet there is an emptiness inside. Its there eating away at them. As long as they stay busy they don't notice. I had that same problem. There was little meaning in life. Just one party to the next. It was in the quiet of the middle of the night that I would wake up and face that there has to be something more to it than this! When I gave in and tried to live on God's terms (instead of asking Him to bend to mine) and accepted Jesus as the controller of my life, the emptiness went away. God puts that hole in our hearts that only He will fill so that we will understand down deep inside that we need Him in our lives. Don't judge God by His people (anymore than you would consider a Porsche a bad car because a bad driver was doing dumb things on the road. Read the manufacturer's handbook: the Bible.

happiness
Many great thoughts shared here. I think I'm a bit older than most of the posters so far. I've made the choice to be happy even though my possessions and accomplishments pale by comparison to many of you. Basically everything in my life is a work in progress and I struggle to keep it all going, but I'm happy. I learned a while back that stuff does not make you happy. I like my things but there isn't anything I couldn't part with. Also people can't make you happy. People are important and bring meaning to your life, but you can decide to be miserable in their midst. I agree that happiness is a choice and a self assessment. If you can't make that choice, then you do need to make some kind of a change.

Sorry to hear that, he is in everyone "prayers"// yes, it's one of those english phrase/sayings. Not wishing you anything but happiness.
Go spent some time with him, and if all you can do is sit there , use this time to make plans that you and him will do upon his discharge. Rika |

I made this same thread a few months ago. Starting to figure out that new and higher goals are not what satifies me, but what drives me. I never take time to relish what I have or had. And its actually hard for me to do. By the time I figure it out I will probably get hit by a bus or something. |

I'm always happy. My dad is the same way.
My theory is that I'm happy "for no good reason" for the same reason that some people are unhappy even though they have much better circumstances. I think is must be chemicals in the brain or something. I think some of the suggestions for how to be happy are a little like a tall person telling a short person how to become taller. Sometimes no amount of thinking or self knowledge will change your brain chemistry (or make you taller). -Chris |

I first caught this thread on Sunday, and I saw that somebody mentioned "religion" as an answer. Coincidentally, the church sermon that day was on "happiness," and centered around Psalms 1:1-3. |
I don't know if remembering how good you really have it will make you happy/happier but when I'm doing work I don't like I think to myself "Well, at least no one is shooting at me!"

Yeah, when I get too fat and happy and then hit a bump in the road, I think of all the misery in the world that I am NOT experiencing. I've seen a lot of misery in other places that are far far away from me. Worst thing I ever saw, or at least the worst thing I can't get out of my head, was this legless beggar in China, who didn't even have a creeper or skateboard and was dragging himself on his stubs to get around, dressed in rags and pushing a change can with his nose. That's about as bad as it gets. Anything else is easy.

Maybe I am the type of person that always look to the future. Saying next day, next month, next year will mark the change into a happy life. Always struggling ahead, meanwhile life passes by.
In order for a person with my personality to feel genuinely happy, perhaps a chemical push is necessary. Any of you tried some kind of "lucky pills" ? Any good ? |
Whatever pills you decided to take you need to crush them up and find a asain hooker.

Again, lexapro. Worked wonders for me. I know I'm not alone.

Re: lexapro, meds can be tricky, what works for one person may be he11 for someone else. I respectfully suggest that if you think you need something like that you should seek the assistance of a professional. In the original post the guy says he's in the medical field and if he felt he needed meds I'm sure he would know who to talk to. |
Latino women are just fine too! The few I've been involved with caused me no great passion or heartbreak though.
