Police: Schwarzenegger riding illegally
Why do politicians always think they are above the law when the rest of us get hosed?!
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/01/10/schwarzeneggar.license.ap/index.html Police: Schwarzenegger riding illegally California governor admits he has no motorcycle license SACRAMENTO, California (AP) -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle illegally over the weekend when he collided with a car in his Brentwood neighborhood, the Los Angeles Police Department said Tuesday. Police Lt. Paul Vernon said Schwarzenegger does not have the proper motorcycle endorsement on his California driver's license, contradicting statements made by his spokeswoman since the Sunday accident that left the governor with 15 stitches in his upper lip. "He does not have the license," Vernon said. Police did not cite the governor because they arrived after the accident, Vernon said. Police referred their findings to the Los Angeles city attorney's office, which will determine whether the governor should be cited for an infraction. The city attorney's office could not immediately confirm receipt of the department's report. Schwarzenegger spokeswoman Margita Thompson, acting on initial information Sunday, said the governor's Class C license allowed him to ride the motorcycle with its sidecar attached. His 12-year-old son, Patrick, was riding in the sidecar but was not injured. Schwarzenegger, a Harley Davidson owner who rides regularly with friends along the California coast, said Tuesday that he never bothered to obtain a California motorcycle license because he "never thought about it." "I just never really applied for it," he said, responding to a reporter's question during a state budget briefing. "It was just one of those things that I never really did." Schwarzenegger collided with a car while riding his motorcycle with his son near his Los Angeles home. In a statement issued after the LAPD's announcement, Thompson said the governor "will move forward to get the appropriate endorsement." To get an M-1 or M-2 endorsement, a motorcycle rider must pass a Department of Motor Vehicle skills test or take a motorcycle training course from a program approved by the California Highway Patrol. Driving a motorcycle without the proper license is an infraction that can result in fines ranging from $100 to $250 or more. Schwarzenegger said he had a motorcycle license when he lived in Europe, but never thought about getting another one after he immigrated to the United States in 1968. |

Yep. Agree. I liked the guy, have even flown him a few times. But he thinks that he did not need to comply with the law. Or as he says 'he didn't even think about it'. Shame shame shame. Hope I never get that important.
A small law, yes. But shouldn't they all be important to someone that holds himself out to be the 'Just say NO' and anti-drug Gov? I wonder if Bill Clinton thought about the sexual discrimination laws when he was orally copulating Jennifer Flowers at that fund-raiser in Little Rock when he was Gov. Bet he 'didn't think about that' then either. Think of all the laws (and the female reputations) we could have kept from being broken later on if Bill Clinton had been taken to task about his complete lack of reguard for sexual harassment laws while he was Gov. By this standard, I expect Ahnold to be cited for illegally driving an M1A1 into Tehran during his administration as President. "I just didn't think about it" he was quoted as saying.....

While this story or "case" is really lame... It was an accident you know. Now he has to ride in fron of some over paid schmuk. This schmuk is gonna be one of those know it all types. We have all had to deal with them before and it is never a life changeing expirence. Then he will have to go stand in line at the DMV so he can get a new license that has a little "M" on it.
Now, as for me, A day at the motorcycle class and the DMV means I loose out on a days work and a days pay. Which is kinda hard for me. For him.... well... He looses out on a day of governing and smoking cigars. calling Democrats nasty names and the like. .....NO forget that, he gaines a day of vacation. I hope his son is alright. **I say the below as a stab at a little political humor.** ______________________________ all I can say is KARMA Oh MAN he got totaly sodomized! |

You have to admit that the lefty gloating about Schwarzenegger's infraction is a little petty and hollow.

The guy is only human. Many of us speed without even thinking about it, we are breaking the law. Many people in So. Cal drive without licenses and insurance, they are breaking the law. Why don't we leave Arnold alone and go and get the people that are costing the rest of us Californians money with their accidents because they can't afford to drive in the first place. Should he be cited, probably but not my call. I am sure he knows now to get the license and he will probably abide by the law.

This really should not have been in the news but the guy should've been cited at the very least. Should've also been cited for child endangerment.

Lots of California Harley types don't have licenses because the DMV test is very difficult to pass on an iron pig.
In fact the local biker rags have itty bitty Hondas for rent specifically for the Harley crowd to use passing the DMV test! But after all, not having a motorcycle license is all part of that "outlaw" thing.

I drove my first motorcycle for a few weeks until I could schedule the test (semi rural area, examiner around 1/week). I did 'think about it' and knew full well, if I got caught, I would have consequences to pay. It would not be a great problem for the Governator to lose his driving privilege for a week and I don't suppose he'd feel the fine. Still, he should be charged, I expect I would have been.
