Boondocks is the greatest show ever

I caught the tail end of the MLK episode of Boondocks the other night, and downloaded it this morning to watch the beginning.

I swear, it is the damn funniest and most honest thing I've ever seen. You guys gotta download it. Season 1 Episode 9.

Wow. I'm actually surprised to hear that from you Bryan. Did someone hijack your account?

The comic has run in my paper for a long time. I saw the tail end of the R Kelly episode. The closing statement "we need to love all our people just because they are black and our people" had to be one of the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I can't imagine the rest of the show is much better.

Ya, good stuff...Two pre-pubescent children cursing, speaking in sexual innuendo, engaging in dangerous mischief, and violently hating whites and conservatives.

I'll stick with FamilyGuy, the Simpsons and an occasional episode of Futurama.

Boondocks is an embarrassment. Not just thematically - everything about that show is wrong. Wrong voices, wrong movements when the characters move - just poor quality overall. The strip is much better.

Thematically - it is shocking Warner Bros. green-lighted that show. I have spoken to no one at Cartoon Network who feels comfortable with the subject matter - and these are people who enjoy other Adult Swim programming.

Personally, I don't have issue with the reverse racism of the show. What annoys me is the continual harping of it that here we are, a slighted people, and it's all whitey's fault.

The gang-banger-like kids aren't fun to watch either.

If regarded seriously, this show takes racial equality two steps backward, possibly reinforcing the already present N-word stereotype that plagues America today.

i love satire. Boondocks essentially lampoons the "I hate whitey" stereotype

Sorry, don't see it like that. Maybe if the kids weren't so pissed off all the time, I'd see your point. But by attitude alone, there's nothing lampoon-like about that show.

I agree with almost nothing that has come up in any of the episodes yet, but I still think it is hysterical. Usually if I'm up that late, pretty much anything is going to get laughs. But the MLK episode was gold!

I love the comic strip, but have not seen the show. The comic is definitely lampooning all the negative parts of african american culture. The writer is of the same school of thought as Bill Cosby. He thinks that black people should spend more time getting an education and/or a job, and less time blaming white people for all their problems. My wife, who is quite conservative, had trouble getting past the angry kids at first. She thought it was a hate whitey comic. But I kept showing her the really funny strips, and she got into it, and now it's one of her favorites.

Yes, you see my point. I was talking about the show, which is much different.

Based on Ed's assessment, I will try to look at it in a new light.
