Shaun doesn't think "people of faith" should be making decisions in this country. Really. Wow, that pretty much rules out 80% of the population who believe in a higher power.

It also rules out every single President that I can think of on both sides of the aisle. It also would mean the vast majority of Congress would have to resign.

Making an asinine statement like that IS offensive to me.
Poor choice of words. I think he meant people making faith-based decisions about how to run the country, about policy. About what facts to believe or not believe.

I'll let him speak for himself, but that was the topic.

Odd how often that is perceived around here, though. It's as if some Christians think the concept of monotheism is exclusively theirs. Maybe we should just sbstitute "Yaweh" or "Allah."

The point is that we have a secular government by design. We, of course, have the option to meld religion with our reasons for voting for a particular politician. But I find it hard to believe that the majority of Americans truly support 'faith-based' over 'fact based' decision making in the white house.
Tech you seem to be responding to a statement Shaun didn't make. His statement was that he gets concerned when people of faith make decisions in this country. He did not say he is concerned when people make decisions solely based on their faith. Those two statements are vastly different.

Secondly, Shaun DID bash Christians with his statement since Christians are "people of faith". So are Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, etc. See, Shaun is a rare breed of equal opportunity basher.

Without addressing and dealing with the root causes, it will never, ever go away or even reduce....it absolutely needs to be part of the solution.

Very true, the issues are more complex than my root causes listing. However I really think that regardless of what combination of concessions the US or UN make they won't make much difference until my two root cause items are checked off - as you also stated.

I was referring to the ME (oil) as the most important region in the world though Israel and Jerusalem are the hot button for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. I don't see any of those groups making concessions so perhaps the best, but likely not most popular solution, would be for the UN to take control of the city and make it open to everyone. They can have off-site parking and propane shuttle buses just like Disneyland... "Remember that you are parked in the Moses parking lot..."

>>What's frustrating is that when confronted with evidence such as a CIA determined attack frequency based on intelligence, they just push it aside. "Doesn't fit in my single-mode way of thinking, can't be real." See crtitical thinking argument above.

So now you trust the CIA, Shaun? Even after the intelligence reports they put out on Iraq? I love it when the elitist "intellectuals" from the northeast (I assume you're a Haaaavad man) cite studies and completely ignore common sense and other evidence to the contrary.

Common sense, the article posted by Tech earlier, and the COMPLETE absence of attacks on the US inspite of increased enemies are all the evidence I need. Terrorists want to attack the US on a regular basis, and our government is doing (and has always done) an excellent job protecting us from potential attacks.

Every human being has aspects of logic and faith, even atheists. Faith and evidence can work well together to make good decisions. I think you, sir, are an example of the very accusation you make above.

Regular basis? No, I think it is when they can get it all planned out and that ain't too often.

Our borders are as permeable as always.

Nobody can protect us all from terrorist attacks. Again, the lack of a recent event does not mean anything that the government has done is of any consequence unless you catch them before such a well planned attack.

CC, The enlightened on this board, taking their cue from Tabby, think that your place should be to make them a sandwich.

Pretty funny, huh?

Not

Mull and rcecale - knock it off. That's totally uncalled for, and the last time I remember saying such sophomoric things was back in grade school. Grow up.

Cool_chick - sometimes men are total A-holes. My apologies on behalf of the men who aren't idiots in this world.

Hey Jay, would you trust OBL on why he hasn't attacked us?

Take a read.

On the topic of sandwiches, I've discovered that an Italian sub with mayo/mustard/cheese toasted, then filled up with goodies, then covered (as if dipped) in Italian dressing, is really great!

Since we're talking about sandwichs, here's my second favorite;

Muffuletta or Muffaletta
Muffuletta is a type of Sicilian bread (round crusty loaf with a hollow center) but is best know as one heck of a big sandwich. The sandwich version originated in 1906 at the Central Grocery Store owned by Salvatore Lupo.

The Olive Salad
2/3 cup Green olives, pitted and -coarsely chopped
2/3 cup Black olives, pitted and -coarsely chopped
1/4 cup Pimiento, chopped
1/4 cup drained, chopped cocktail onions
3 Cloves garlic, finely minced
1 Fillet anchovy, mashed
1 tablespoon Capers
1/3 cup Finely chopped parsley
1 teaspoon Oregano
1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
1/2 cup Olive oil
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar

Mix all the ingredients together. Cover and allow to marinate over night or a minimum of 12 hours.

The Sandwich
1 large Loaf Italian Bread
1/3 pound Hard salami, very thinly -sliced
1/3 pound Ham, very thinly sliced
1/3 pound Provolone, thinly sliced

Slice loaf in half horizontally and slightly scoop out insides. Layer on salami, ham and Provolone. Spread on olive spread at least 3/4-inch thick. Replace top half of loaf and cut into serving size pieces.

I say thank every soldier serving in the military. Their collective efforts have lessened the likelyhood of additional attacks. We owe a great deal of thanks, praise, and condolences to every soldier who gave their life or was injured in the defense of America.

DANG!

Well, now that I've been duly chastised I'll try to be more serious.

CC, in response to your comments regarding my comments to techweenie's comments (I'm being serious here, honest!)...

Read through this thread and you'll see what I meant by my comments regarding respect.

You may have to go through a couple of pages, but it's there.

David, I agree with this statement 100%. Strangely enough though, there are a few on this BBS who wouldn't agree in the least. It's really rather sad, if you ask me.

Semper fi!
