I think the biggest secrect to being happy is to keep doing the things you have always enjoyed. No reason to stop just because you get older.
I still do everything I did in my teens and twenties. (Bike, scuba dive, ski, rock and ice climb, etc.) Only thing that has degraded on me is my "partying" recovery time. Takes an extra day or two!

Livi,
I have 40 almost nine years in the rear-view mirror: you have a great decade ahead. The journey is the key. One last thing(s): do two things every year. - Try something new - Enjoy something treasured

IMHO being over 40 is great. Its all what you make of it anyway. There is no reason for any of us over 40 and for sure 50 for not having an AFLAC policy. My .02. No connection. Cheers and enjoy.

Happy Birthday! Considering the alternative, getting older is great!!! My last 4 years have been the best, watching my kids grow into young adults and being married to a wonderful woman definitely help!

Yup...it gets better! At 40, life was full of business worries...worries I no longer have.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARKUS!
Glad you made it this far! Despite your recent post about not being completely happy, I wish I was in your shoes! I'm afraid it does get a bit downhillish from here unfortunately. If I could trade my body for a 20 year old's, I would definitely do so, but only if I got to keep my 43 year old brain! Enjoy the best part of your life and be content! ianc

Yup, the big 40. One step closer to the grave. Happy Birthday.
But just wait for the big 50, you will have forgotten the big 40, if you live that long. |

Happy Birthday Doc!
I was very depressed about turning 40. I heard that's when things begin to fall apart. Now that I'm 42, I do believe I feel aches and pains more now than ever before but nothing that Ibuprofen can't handle. I am having the time of my life though since I finally have some fun money. I look forward to retiring at 55 so I can crank up the fun meter 24X7. |

40?
pfffffftttt.....bunch of young bucks. When my father turned 50 he set the worlds record in his age group (4:38, the sob was 50!), and did the Chicago marathon in 2:51.

Age is really just a number, not a state of being. You are as old as you want to feel and act. My wife still calls me the "Big Kid" when relating incidents and accidents around the house to her friends, and they all know who she is talking about.
Aging is part of the wonderous cycle of life, each with it's own positives and pleasures to behold and experience. Graying hair and reading glasses, who cares? Have I not earned them? To compare one decade to another is cheating yourself out of the enjoyment of each and again focusing on a number. There are a lot of times when I have to really think what my age is when asked...no I'm not that old, but it really is a mindset that I have. Make it what you want out of it. Mark Twain said: Happiness is a Swedish sunset -- it is there for all, but most of us look the other way and lose it. Take time and enjoy the ride---Wishing you many more B'days. EDIT: See I almost forgot....I'll be 50 this year, I think, I'll check my license to make sure.
