Porsche 930 or 1980 Frerrari 380 GTS

Hi I currently own a 1987 911 Carrerra and was looking to a low to mid 80s 930, an opportunity came up for a low mileage 40,000 Ferrari 380 GTS for around $22,000, I don,t have much knowledge with the Ferrari Maintainance costs? and overall longterm affordability, any insite?

This is not going to be much help.

But why dont you slap a turbo on youre 87.
You already have the 5speed G50 and the EFI 3.2 that can make some crazy HP.

Unless youre wanting to get out of youre Targa and into a coupe.

I have been trying to learn whats involved with adding a turbo to my car, from what I've read it does'nt make much financial sense and I may be better off selling and spending the xtra for the real deal, unless a reasonable kit were available???

Ferrari Chat is great, guys over there are really nice.

From what I know, a 308 makes little sense (unless it's a European lightweight) but a 328 can be a very nice car.

Good luck!

the truth is that the ferrari is more likely to hold it's value than that of a 930, infact, it may go up, whereas the porsche will definetly go down to a lower level. Besides, a ferrari has more wow facter than any porsche (sorry)

I can't believe you guys are not telling him the grim true about Ferrari maintainance.

Its ugly. You could take that 22k car to the dealer and find out it need 22k worth of work. I started out looking for a 308, and quickly moved on when I heard some horror stories from former owners.

Buy the Ferrari and flip it for a $8,000 profit, it's worth at least $30,000.

Worst case senario you own it for a year at no profit - like any other car.

40,000 mile '80 2 valve CIS 308 isn't a $30,000 car.

It's also an incredibly unfun car to drive. So fat. So ponderous. So slow.

In a good state of tune you'd be lucky to break 8 seconds in 0-60. Literally just about every econo car and minivan made today will be leaving you choking on their dust at stoplights.

Comparing a 911 Turbo to an '80 308 is, well . . . there is absolutely no comparison at all.

Yeah, but put on an aloha shirt, grow a mustache, and you can pretend you're Thomas Magnum!

I was looking at 308s and 328s before I bought my 92 C2. Every dealer said I should buy two Ferraris if I wanted an everday driver, as one would always be in the shop.

What Wayne said about the power curve of the turbo. I owned both a 3.2 Carrera and a 930 at the same time. I had more fun in the 3.2, it was a lot easier to enjoy. Make sure that you spend some time in a 930 (if you haven't already) before you make that decision.
