Good place to look for a used Honda?

I'm looking for a used Accord with low mileage. I'm looking to spend in the 16K range.

Are there any Pelican-like sites out there for Honda?

I purchased a Honda CRV off Craigslist. I lucked out because, after looking for quite a while, I caught an ad for a NJ car listed on the NY site....why he placed it there I don't know. He must have listed 10 minutes before I looked. Long story short, I checked the car out 20 minutes later and picked it up for about half the going rate. Accords may be a bit easier to secure.
Bottom line is to make a killing be flexible enough to look at the car ASAP and have cash in hand.

Heh heh, what a meant was it was a suburban NJ car listed on the NY site. Luckily he had no local (NJ) callers before me.

One of the first CRVs I looked at was a NYC car. This thing was literally beat to death. Everything was wrong with it. The 40 something female kept on pleading ignorance to every problem I identified.

I think cars that hold their value really well are best bought new. You might want to check how much more it would cost to get a new one. The extra cost could easily be justified by how many extra "free" miles you'd get without buying tires, brakes, or a tuneup. Plus you'd get a warranty, pick your color, get more favorable financing, have higher resale value, and know there isn't a "reason" the car's being sold. A good resource for bottom-line territory:

I NEVER buy a new car. Lose thousands just driving off the lot, and if you borrow money you're upside down for years.

I disagree. Depends on the deal you make. On both my Honda Pilot and Odyssey (sold), I got them for less than invoice, actually, about 5K off msrp. I always tell the sales manager to stick it to the next guy and give me the bargain. I bring in my own financing with low, credit union rates and think I do pretty well leaving depreciation on the lot. Now, there are plenty of folks who add on the remaining loan balance of their trade, and accerories to the hilt. That's where the dealership makes their cash.

How much more would you be willing to pay for a new car vs a used one? $100? $1,000? More?

Can't you get a new Honda Accord for 16k? Get a preowned from a dealership or now get a deal on 2005 model that a dealer just wants to get rid of.

A very good friend of mine bought a new 2004 Accord in the fall of 2004. He paid $18,500 for an EX with the 160 hp 4 cylinder and an automatic. Very well equiped with a nice sound system, alloys and sunroof. Car stickered around $22k or so.

Lots of used ones were $16k or so for the same car a year or two older. What's the incentive to save $2500 and 20k miles? For him, it was a no brainer to buy the new car for $2500 more. No excuses, full warranty, etc...

A 4 or 6 cylinder Accord with an automatic is a very common car. Find a high volume dealer that has some left over 2005's, bring your own financing and get a deal

Exactly. Not only do you get 20k trouble-free, zero-maintenence miles, you also have the higher resale value of a newer model (with 20k less miles) when you go to sell.

Carsdirect has '06s starting at $16,862, and they're not the last word in bottom-line pricing (but should be very close):

A good, convenient online financing source at Capital One.

16.8K for an '06 Accord sounds like a killer deal to me. No wonder they sell so many.
