What To Do With My Old Mossberg Pump?
Just retrieved my Mossberg 500 from my father's garage. 18" barrel, standard full plastic stock and stock plastic foregrip, 6 shots.
I've never been particularly "into" this gun, but out of idleness I searched online for accessories. My, there are a lot. Pistol grip stocks, pistol grips without stock, side folding stocks, top folding stocks, shell carriers, tactical rails, heat shields, heat shield with ghost ring sights, I imagine you can hang a light or a laser on it too. Okay, all very interesting to look at - but for a home defense and apocalypse gun is there really any reason to add anything to the gun - besides shells? Also, is there any shooting range in the SF Bay Area that permits firing shotguns with buckshot and/or slugs at targets at a range of 15 yards (or less)? I've never seen anyone doing this at my usual range (Richmond Rod & Gun Club).

I think the Martinez Gun Club has a multi purpose range where you can shoot shotguns. I haven't been there in a while and need to rejoin. I may drop by this weekend. If so, I'll let you know.

I have a Remington 870 police mag. 12ga. pump. Just about the same gun just with no plastic. It has a pistol grip and a 18.5 barell with extended mag. This is just about the best thing to "sweep" a house. from the hip there are no doorways in my 70year old house I can't get through easily. Mossburg makes some nice add-ons for the 500.

One of the best things to add, and most often forgotten, is a tactical sling. They're usually model specific, and I'm sure there's one for your Mossberg.

Yep, I have an old mossberg too, i bought it in high school.
18" bbl, pistol grip, 6 rounds plus one in the chamber (when in use, not in storage), a shoulder harness, and a nice bag. that's all you need. |
