Best Jeep Forums ?

Can't decide whether to replace our aging Cherokee with a newer version or with the Grande Cherokee. I know the midsize Cherokee inside and out but the Grande I'm at odds over what year is best. Hopefully there is Jeep forum that is near to this in quality.

I use JeepsUnlimited.com, though I think jeepforum.com has more traffic, but I could never get a sign up with them. Still read both.

I'm by no means an expert, but I think the 1st series Grands were a closer relative to the XJ Cherokee. I love my XJ; puts the S and U in SUV, not like the behemoths that most drive these days.

Jeepsunlimited.com too.

Asphalt, check out the 99-04 Grand Cherokee's and see what you think. We have four in the immediate family and I have been impressed with them. My 2000 has 150k on it and it just keeps on ticking (was my father's company car). I have been watching prices drop on the WJ's (99-04) with the release of the WK (05+) and some of the Overlands are looking very tempting. I take care of most of the maintenance so if you have any specific questions feel free to ask. Also, check out wjjeeps.com for more DIY info.

As for off road ability, if you realize the vehicles limits (mainly ground clearance) you will be very impressed with what a Grand Cherokee will do. It is not my best friends lifted Rubicon but it goes where I want it. I have been in 6-8" of snow and had no problem but I do have good tires. Have fun and enjoy the hunt--I would hold out for the 4.7 over the 4.0 if you ever plan to tow much and look for transfer case leaks on ones you test-drive--can be a pain to fix.

In my experience, the smaller Cherokee is a better driver than the Grand Cherokee.

I put over 200,000 miles on a Cherokee. The 4.0 6-cylinder is bulletproof. I've driven Grand Cherokees, and they always feel disconnected from the road.

And the places off-road a stock Cherokee can go are mind boggling!

The only thing better off-road than a Cherokee is my wife's Wrangler.

(She says to call it "the cute little Wrangler with the big tires", but I can't seem to get "Wrangler" and "cute" in the same sentence.)

I can't say which is better forum is better for Jeeps, but they are different. I'm on both frequently in the TJ section. I tend to post more on jeepforum.com as it almost appears more adult. jeepsunlimited.com is good but just strikes me as more childish. In both Wrangler forums you have to dig through the 20 daily post about "Which lift should I put on". But if I had a problem with my windshield wipers then jeepforum would be where I posted because I know it would get a better response. I've also received good advice on the wife's Liberty on jeepforum.com

By newer Cherokee I assume you are talking year wise? Or are you talking about the new Commander? The Commander which looks like the regular Cherokee is not much if any bigger outside than the GC. It does have 3 rows of seats, but I haven't stopped and looked at one closely yet. We (family) has had I think every model of Jeep except the Wagoneer and the Commander. My parents had a 04 GC and while it was nice, the front didn't seem to have a lot of room, leg wise, or head wise. If you are looking for a used on both forums have for sale sections.

Good luck

both JU and JF are good forums. Only Grand Cherokee I would steer clear of is the '99 which was the first year of the model change. Lots of recalls and defects.
