Well I have driven over 2,000,000 miles over the last 30 years all over the entire usa. Wonderful experience as I love driving. Stevepaa, I can tell you that yours is not the common experience. Most places the speed limit is generally ignored, completely. The most likely time to get a ticket is when there is no other traffic on the road and your the only suspect, day or night.
The big cities, eg LA, NY, Houston, Chicago the 55 speed limit was a complete joke. During rush hour NO one observed the limit and the police could only stand by and watch. The little towns were where you were most at risk, ie the cops could pick you out of the small crowd. Safer to speed, yet more likely to get nabbed for it. Let me tell you about some of my tickets. Back in the early 70's traveling thru Astambula, OH (next to Kent State Univ) on interstate 90, day before xmas, I was traveling about 73 in a 70 mph zone, and the typical speed was about 85 to 90 mph. Local cop pulled me over. Said I was going 85mph, I was certain, absolutely certain I wasn't cause I was driving a car that ran 4100 rpm at 70 mph and almost 4800 at 80 mph, and easily could hear the difference as well as see it on the Speedo. Started the conversation with what do you do, eg student or worker. I stated student. He went on to say it was $50 or wait for the justice, a couple of days, in jail. What BS. This is the one time I vowed to fight every ticket, no matter how justified they may be. I think it was the next week where the same cops shot the students at Kent state, doing double duty as guard. Then I lived next to a small town in NY, Savona, NY. They put a speed limit of 25 almost 2 miles outside of town on a clear highway. Gave tickets for anyone doing 26 mph. Been black listed by AAA for the longest time. I did go thru a NYS speed trap at over 150 mph back then. Never got a ticket for it. But those darn cops kept pulling me over to check my tail lights, windshield wipers, and even shocks for years later. Can't understand why Now I am a legend. I dare not tell anyone that I am the same person. If I am ever pulled over I say I never heard of that guy, I am from CA. I have a very memorable name. |
Yeah, I have about the same. My wife and I love driving cross country.
I have only had one bad experience, 4 tickets in 40 years. First was 35 in a 25 in 1965. I was changing lanes too much and speeding. Judge held my license for a week. Second was doing 82 at night on a 70 and I didn't know it. Turns out the new tires were the wrong size. Judge didn't care, and I was irritated by that. Third was 45 in a 35 around 1983. I missed the sign where the speed changed. All of these were in CA. Last was in Jacksonville, FL, in 1991 doing 45 in a 35 just before a bridge. I came around the corner and was on top of the cop before I knew it. He put on his light and I just pulled right over to wait for him. All of the cops were very pleasant and none tried to yank my chain. |
17 pages!!!??? SEEE-VUUUN-TEEEN pages!!! Mul, are you proud of yourself? I would be... And we still don't know if you are on death row, nominated for a Noble prize for writing children's Big Wheel performance cartoon books, or if you got off scott-free. Amazing.

Yeah, Mul's probably picked up trash off the freeway and gone to traffic school during the duration of this underwhelming thread.

I wanna know which liberal came in here and underrated this thread...Make no mistake, it was a liberal.

I am not picking on anyone here that might be in this video. I would behave the same way as most of the drivers in it. I found this video when seraching for Porsche related videos and thought of this thread. My point of posting it is for all those who are judging a person who speeds as a criminal might want to watch this and see all the criminal activity by our fellow P-car owners. If you NEVER exceed the speed limit on the street, I applaud you, you are a much better person than I.

My contention is merely that we all know the laws (we have to pass a test regarding same to obtain our drivers license), and no one forces us to break them, so if you get a ticket, don't play the "victim." It's a personal responsibility thing. |

Personal responsibility is just lip service these days.
Like fudging OT on your timecard or padding your expense reports, or fake tax deductions. This isn't any different. It's easy to claim virtue as long as it isn't yours.... Signed, rjp |

I do not feel personal responsibility is just lip service with all, however. At least not with me. It's a hard thing for some people, because it requires admitting fault. |
cool chick.
I have no doubt that you are responsible for everything your lip does. I know, I know, I had to say it. Seeya in LAS (where is it sunny, warm and busy today). |

LOL hey, this lip isn't always doing bad things....hehe ok I stop. And I see nothing wrong with having an opinion. :) Looking forward to it. cold here. Laundry, cleaning day. :( |
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to go there. And your opinion (while not always mine) is yours, no matter what.
I just had this flash of the words 'lip' and 'responsibility' in the same sentance. Had to do it. |

That's what I meant by "not always doing bad things." haha I'm just playing around. Ok....now I stop.... |

Could not resist... know I am going to pay for that comment in Vegas... if not sooner! Michael, a lip can be responsible most of the times! Joe |

Why not? I was pulled over for a 43 in 35 in a speed trap, as a matter of fact EVERY time I have been pulled over was because of a speed trap. I do not drive like a moron on the streets mearly follow the flow. I was not ticketed but if I was I would have fought it. The road I was doing 43 on I have watched patrol cars do 50+ on. Its up the street from the station. They are not responding to a call they are mearly driving along on patrol. I refuse to take responisibility if I am not acting in a reckless manor. If I am a victim of a speed trap or revenue generator, I am going to do all I can to get out of it. I now own a radar gun and we have toyed with sitting on the side of the road with a video camera and the gun and shooting police cars as they pass in the same area they have their speed traps. If they are going to enforce a law, they should set an example and obey it themselves. |

1. Newton (local town) Police and complained that the speed trap cruiser parked half on the sidewalk, half on the street was dangerous. It was moved, never been back. 2. Twice I've seen Staties tailgating drivers in the left lane on the Mass Pike. They're like 1 foot off their bumper at 65. Called the local barracks and gave the car #, told them how unsafe it was. |
