My benefactor was the Red Bull Brumos Porsche race team.
Free tickets, free food, free booze, etc. were provided for me and 9 other CSCC members.

The only restrictions: Stay out of the HOT area and stay out of the reserved seating and press box.

Well just let me say....
Look at these pictures. Do you really think I would have preferred the reserved seating over the trackside???

Your ticket level and the type pass you hold determine which side of this window you are on. Called "the fishbowl", it was put in on the "fanzone" side of the garages to keep people from wandering around in the way of the teams. The bottom of the window has a slot so you can pass items through for autographs.

Having worked at an active race before, I did my best to respect my privilege. I stayed out of the way and never asked anyone who was working for an autograph. Can't say the same for some others.

I saw a mechanic ask a guy to leave the garage area... right after the guy opened the door of the DP car and proceeded to poke around with stuff in the cockpit. Duuhhhh....

I think I would have taken a sterner approach.

I have some pre-race team photos that I will post later. I'm having to resize the images, and unfortunately I need to be working right now...

I slept in the truck from around 3am to 8am.
Other than that, yes.

Sorry about the driver names being truncated. I am cut-n-pasting them from the Rolex24 website, and no I will not take the time to look them up. :P

I know this car was already posted. I don't understand why, but on the back was a sticker that said $________ PER LAP In the blank were some home-depot type stick on numbers reading 561. Are they implying their fully loaded cost of operation is $561 per lap?

I didn't catch the other guy's name....

EDIT: Not my photo - it was taken by another CSCC member.

I believe that's Boris Said on the left. He's kind of a "hired gun" for most road races.

You are correct. I was just eFFing around when I said I didn't get his name. I think Boris got bumped from his ride in the Rusty Wallace #2 Crawford Pontiac because of the height difference between him and Danica. The car could not be configured to accomodate driver switches with that much disparity in height.

More research needed.......

Cash,

My Nephew is a senior at Furman...if there is any way I can, you know, provide a little something for the effort, if you do this again, please let me know. This would be a great experience for a great kid.
I'll be happy to work whatever details and renumeration required.
Thanks.

Morgan

I would not mind in the least. Unfortunately, I only received 11th hour notice of the opportunity. The race team notified CSCC on Wednesday and all the slots were immediately filled. On Friday around lunch time, one of the guys canceled and I got his slot. I had to leave work almost immediately to go home and pack.

If your nephew is a car or race enthusiast, he should ride over to Clemson university and check out their club. We have LOTS of auto-x events, and some drag events. We are a NASA affiliate and go to their track events - both as workers and as participants. (Work two weekends and get a weekend of racing for free.) We would be glad to see him out there with us.

I cannot divulge much about our connection to the RedBull teams, but suffice to say that I expect some more opportunities to arise in the future.

I will let him know...thanks very much. I've got to keep the dream alive! Are you at Clemson?
