Out with the kids and wife buzzing the hood int the targa and came upon this gem. I got it for $20. Never used. Not sure how much it is really worth. Best guess if I bought it new it would go for $90 to $120. 16" Crafstman. Not variable but then again you can't have it all.

Anybody find anything thing else at a Garage sale worth bragging about?

Nice find Mike! definitely a good score.
Best thing I ever found in a garage sale , was a Remco toy garbage truck that I had when I was a kid. stupid thing was one of my favorite toys. Saw the box laying on the driveway under a table. It was complete with everything, even the plastic garbage cans. Picked it up, woman says gimme five bucks! I was flipping out that I found it. my wife thought I was nuts.
Needless to say, I went home and immediately played with it.

Wasn't a great score as far as monetary value, but was worth millions in sentimental value.

15 years ago, when a nearby boatshop went T/U, they had a sale of the assets. I picked up a Makita hand planer. They wanted $25 for it, but I pointed out the arbor didn't turn. They took $20. The arbor turned just fine after I properly adjusted the brand new blades someone had slapped on without setting up. I did have to pay the full price, ($25) for the Makita 3/8 inch drill, though.

How about an HP Dual channel scope, 200 MHz, with probes, 7ea Theater lights, real ones, Sony video cam, Kodak DVD player, and a pallet full of misc electronic junk, all for $50. Courtesy of local college garage sale. I actually paid high, as most pallets full of 15 to 20 Pentium 111, 1V, computers with DVD drives, went for $5 per pallet. Also a lot of 4ea Sun Sleuth 1 Scopes, with all probes, went for $5 total. Did I mention the cars, some went for $10 ea to as high as $800 for a 2001 Ford patrol car, pursuit model. It was missing the front bumper. Or the Case 480D for $2000. You gotta love CA.

Was at a yard sale and a guy had a couple maple boards. Asked about them, and the guy explained that they came off the walls of a 220 yr old church. Then he shows me the Motherload. He had 1600 sq ft of it... 7/8" x 10", 12 foot lengths. By the time I got back there with a truck, he only had 440 sq ft left. I bought it for about $1.85 US/ sq ft.

I'm going to use it for kitchen flooring.

The postal service used to have auctions in Atlanta for stuff they'd dropped. I bought a mail cart full of audio speakers for $50. Inside there was a pair of Polk SDA speakers that sold for $1600/pair, and a single Klipsch Kg4 worth maybe $400. There were several other pairs of speakers too. They were all a little dinged up, but nothing major. The Polks are still my main speakers. At another sale I bought a Soundcraftsman amp for $75.

On occasion I attend public storage auctions. I've gotten a decent collection of hand tools and power tools from it. Most outragous find was a box of 150 XXXporn DVD's. I'm not really into porn so there they sit in my garage. I thought of selling them on e-bay but ran into too much resistance with the porn filters so I gave up.

I just picked up a Honda powered pressure washer. 2500psi, an extra length of hose, 4 tips for various things, and a soap suction feed and bottle. On a roller frame. Was $400 at Sears.

$75. and an oil change.

I actually went to the guys house to buy an older Honda motorcycle. It was pretty bad. It ran, but needed some TLC. Had all the papers, I took it anyway for $200. I probably wouldn't have if it hadn't been for the washer. Turns out that it has almost no miles, and shows it. The stuff that needs TLC will polish up.

SoFar so good. Just need some time to get it right.

Was at a sale across the street last fall and got a bandsaw like yours AND a small (10" bed) lathe for $150! Could not believe it as you can make so much with both of those.

Just helping a friend move out of his storage yard 3 weeks ago and picked up a 1972 Jag XJ for $150. Engine had a fire but its saveable with some work. If not will part it out but got a hell of a deal there.

Few years ago a guy in our Dallas PCA put a note up that he was having a sale at his house. I went there and was a very interesting story. 5000 sq foot house and the guy was selling everything inside. Seems that he was moving from this large house to a 40 foot sailboat (going to sail around the world while his kids were young enough to enjoy it) and everything that did not work with a boat was not needed.

We walked into his garage and there was a very nice workbench, compressor and a whole wall full of air tools. Parts washer, anvil and so on. Racks of nuts and bolts, all metric as he had a 911 and 356. He threw in a large box of old 356 parts and a "C" model baggage rack. I sold the baggage rack 4 months ago on Ebay for $240 and still have more to sell when I get time. Got to haggling with him and bought the whole garage for $400 so my total cost right now for everything is $160!

You just have to keep your eyes open...

Hmm, I don't know if this counts, but my GF's mother told me about "an old sword" that was sitting in their garage forever, and she was going to pitch, did I want it?

Sure--GF brings it over, turns out to be a WWII German parade sword--not in the best of shape, but original with all Wehrmacht markings, only missing the scabbard.

Joe - that Jag is todays "barn find". Incredible find. That guy in Dallas reminds me of my buddy who did something very similar except he did it with a pull behind trailor. I got an air comp, weed wacker, lawnmower, inflatable raft (heavy duty), 4 RC cars for Max, a brand new bike for Emma, two bedroom sets (one Oak one Cherry) - went to the in-laws, a GE washer/dryer - went to the inlaws, a desk, two book cases, and entertainment center, a Kenwood tuner, Sony DVD, two camcoders, 2 video players, an amp, a DC video player/TV, 4 Bose surroundsound speakers and a 56" Wide Screen Sony (1 year old). = $0. I gave hime $1000 anyway. I know why he was doing it - it was all about purging his life. He was going to give it a charity. Wanted to give more but it was a fight for him to take anything.

I used to have a real German sword like that. Given to me as a kid by my uncle, who was there. Unfortunately I took it out to a city park playing with my friends one day. Got distracted and left it sitting. Went back to get it a few minutes later and someone else grabbed it. Still wonder where it went and who has it now. It was complete and like new condition with a scabbard, never should have left the house...

Is the sword long or short? Does it have the markings or a name etched on it? If its a short one, brown handle and still has the markings on it, pls PM me, it could be worth a bit of money. I am not interested but can turn you onto a place to sell it.

Mike, agree and its all being in the right place at the right time. Sometimes having a bit of cash helps.

Kevin, and just how many PM's have you gotten about the DVD's since posting? Bet a few, and no, not interested but I bet you will find someone on the list who wants them.

I thought I had the same thing when I bought a old storage locker. Loads of plastic tool cases and almost 500 CD plastic cases. Turns out everything was empty but I got what I wanted, a industrial "nut and bolt" case that bolts on a shop wall. Sold all the plastic tool cases and paid what I bid on the locker so its a wash...

Flee market find:

Stroll by a stand and notice three black boxes...hmm, looks vaguely familiar. Upon further inspection I realize they're brand new 6 CD changers for the new (at the time) V8 Jags....+one magazine. People picked them up and put them right back down....didn't know what they were. Two minutes later I walked away with the whole lot for $35.

Sold the Magazine for $75 and the CD changers for an average of $750 each on Ebay.

Sword is long, has a slight curve to the blade. Black handle with silver-wire wrapping. Looks like some type of leaf design on the handguard--which is a goldish tint color. On one side where the blade meets the handle is a similar leaf design. The flip side has the Eagle clutching the swastika. No name etchings, there is a mark on the blade, but I have been unable to make it out--very smallish.
