WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER 'RACIST LANGUAGE' AT TACO BELL

A woman accused of using racial epithets while waiting for food at a Connecticut Taco Bell drive-through window was arrested Wednesday.

Jennifer Farrelly, 19, of East Windsor, has been charged with ridicule on account of race, creed or color and second-degree breach of peace. Farrelly's boyfriend, Eric Satterlee, 22, of Ashford, was charged with breach of peace in the incident.

On Dec. 18, Farrelly and Satterlee became frustrated by the slow service at the Taco Bell restaurant on Brookside Place, according to an arrest warrant. Farrelly banged on the drive-through window and called the Taco Bell attendant, Jamelle Byrd, a racial epithet, according to the warrant. Satterlee allegedly cursed and banged on the window.

Farrelly denied using racial epithets when she was interviewed by police, saying Byrd caused the dispute by ridiculing her for parking her car far away from the drive-through window, the warrant states. Byrd's supervisor told police that Byrd should not have been working the drive-through because he had gotten into a similar incident with another customer, the warrant states.

I thought this kind of "law" only existed in Britain...

I am kinda guessing that this is not exactly the outcome MLK had in mind when he fought for equal rights back in the day. Back then, blacks WERE being held down by whites. Now, it seems that blacks are the only ones holding themselves back (yet somehow many blacks still feel whites owe them something). Whatever......

How do you determine all that from the story Tim? How is the window attendant neccesarrily to blame for slow service? Were the cooks/preparers black also? Maybe just a few impatient white racists taking out their frustrations. Interesting that you all support them.

Besides, the only story seems to be on the Drudge Report. I've not seen it on Fox or CNN yet. Since Drudge has it I bet Rush is talking about it too though.

How can you tell what the race the participants are?

The only thing I could gather from the article is that it was Taco Bell, so maybe it was a racial slur against Hispanics.

Wow, talk about an overreaction, without knowing what race the drive thru customers were, they certainly seem to be suffering some sort of "you owe me complex." They appear to act as if they are the only customers of the establlishment which may or may not have been the case, but that point is moot. If they were unhappy with the quality or speed of the service they are receiving they are free to eat somewhere else. There are always reasonable solutions to these types of situations, these people seem to not be aware of the fact that they do not own the establishment.

With all due respect, most respondents are missing the point. The point is not whether it's "nice" to get pissed and yell a racial epithet, nor does it matter what race the "participants" are. The question is whether one should be arrested by a PC police state for calling someone an insensitive name. My guess is that only only so-called "liberals" will think so.

Good point, I guess I just assumed and used it to launch into my view that minorities today not only have equal rights, but often more rights.

No matter, black, white or whatever, a person verbally running down a fastfood person shows little class. I would still argue that that person has the "right" to do so though, provided no threats were exchanged.

They would have been arrested in my area for disorderly conduct for their behavior, banging on the window, name-calling. I don't see the issue. Connecticut has a law against ridicule by race, color or creed. It isn't the only example of 'legislate morality' in the US.

Oh, that is soooo true. You'd better be nice to anyone who touches anything you put in your mouth. I've worked in a lot of restaurants, and it's bad enough what they sometimes do to food when they're not even pissed off at someone.

Damn good point. Despite the fact that most around here seem to have a 3rd grade education, the motivation of a slug, and the people skills of a mute, I still am polite. I don't want my half-assed excuse for a meal to get extra toppings. Gotta love fast food.

Though tacky, I don't think it should be a crime, unless there are physical threats involved.

My brother almost got arrested once in California for calling a woman a "dyke". I am not sure what kind of argument he got into with the "lady", but some police officers came and threatened to arrest him for a hate crime. He of course denied ever calling the b!tch a dyke.
