Yeah--being a 6th seed and then winning the Super Bowl with 3 consecutive play-off road victories against the division winner, the team with the best record in the league and over-all favorite to win the Super Bowl, and then a team which was undefeated at home is just luck.

Oh, and then there was that whole Super Bowl game.

:)

No, not all luck.....just lots of luck in each of those games. If you can't admit that then.....well you're both a good fan and blind:)

You are right, the Steelers are terrible--it was all pure luck, going from 7-5 to Super Bowl champions as the 6th seed.

That feat is so easily accomplished that it has never been done before.

When they needed to, the Steelers beat the best the NFC had to offer--Bears, Vikings, Seahawks--along the way beating the best in the AFC (which this year was clearly the division with better teams).

Luck it is.:)

Agreed, lots of luck. In fact the final game was more luck than skill. They were outplayed in every aspect of the game and almost won in a blowout. Simple deduction will tell you the truth.

And they aren't terrible, but they're surely not "great" either. They're decent team that got very lucky,.

HaHa, you guys sound like the first time LCD was beaten by Tac. :D

Btw, I was for the seahawks, but the bunch of whining going on by the fans, geesh.

What I watched the steelers do, they where best TEAM. You can rant all you want about their tactics, and say they where only ocaisonaly brilliant at points in the game, but it was those points that counted.

As for winning so many games in a row, its a "record", but does not mean best to me, rather the win/loss. For example, 5 games in a row win, and losing 10 games, might not be very good.

Sounds like the 2002 Buccaneers, 2001 Ravens, or the 2000 St Louis Rams. All lucky I guess, but all Champions.

None as lucky as the Steelers this year. Just wait till the afterglow wears off, the analysts will agree. It's just in bad taste for them to bring it up so soon. Look at the stats again, just pathetic for a midseason game , much less the Championship game. But in the end they do get the ring and they can never take it away (though Randle El might pawn his for dope money:))

Len - are you serious, or just pissed 'cause you lost a bet? I mean, where's all this coming from? I haven't had a dog in a football game since The Rose Bowl, but objectively, the Steelers proved themselves when they went to Mile High and beat the Broncos. They are a good team. If they blew Seattle out with a 42-10 score, would that placate you?

I'm glad that the WWF-ness of "pro ball" is becoming more obvious to people.

Must have lost a bundle on the game.

The Steelers ARE the best team in the NFL. They have the Lombardi trophy to prove it. That is why there is a play-off system, that is why there is a Champion declared at the end of the season. If, as you say, the Steelers are an average team, then the other 31 in the NFL must really suck.

I will focus on the facts, The Steelers are the 2006 NFL Champions.

No, they are not the best team in the NFL, not even top 5. But that's OK, that's how the system is set up. The world loves an underdog and it's nice to see one win every now and again like this.

89911 02-07-2006 04:48 AM

Lets break this down. First off it you want to rank teams, stick to college football and polls. To avoid this crap, they came up with playoffs. There is no #2 through #10 team after the Championship unless your drafting. But if you want to rank teams, not even the top 5? OK so you must be giving the perennial chokers Indianapolis credit? Bronco's with "Jake the Mistake"? A burned out, beat up Patriots? Cincinnati's with absolutely no defense? Chargers with "Big Game" Schottenheimer at the realm? Jacksonville?? I'm not even going to put an NFC team in the mix. Did you ever think that a large part of why the game sucked was because Seattle was in it? Dropped balls and throwing out of bounds on key plays can make for some ugly plays. I'm amazed at how shortsighted the comment is. Sounds like every hack sportwriter that is crying because the Bronco's or Colts aren't in it. Hey, lets give this team a free ride into the Superbowl despite losing in the playoffs because the media feels its owed to them. What a bunch of BS. The Steelers played to the level of the competition. For better games, watch the AFC championship or playoff games. I need a few chuckles, lets here your top 5 above them.

lendaddy 02-07-2006 04:55 AM

Look, you love your Steelers and that's great...but you've got rose colored glasses on. I think it is safe to say that the Steelers caught more breaks, starting with making the playoffs at all.....(think about that) right through ther championship game than any in recent history. It makes for a great story, but not a great champion. I could care less really, I have the friggren Lions for goodness sakes, but reality is reality and the Steelers are not that good.

Pittsburgh was 15-1 last season, went to the AFC Championship game and won the Super Bowl this year. I'll take that over your opinion.

And lost to the New England Patriots who won the whole thing.

lendaddy 02-07-2006 05:05 AM

I never said they were a bad team, they are pretty good. They are NOT the best team in the NFL and that is clear to see. but like I said before the system is setup to allow upsets and that's what we have here. Good for them, but it doesn't mean they are suddenly the best team.

They caught a TON of breaks, atleast admit that.

Then, the World Series winner is not the best baseball team
The NBA Champion is not the best basketball team
The Stanley Cup winner is not the best hockey team

As for "the system", you never hear the NFL saying, hey let's switch to a BCS-style ranking system, but you often hear college ball advocates saying, let's switch to a true play-off system.

You can believe that the Steelers are not the best team in the NFL, or "not even top 5", but there is a shiny Lombardi trophy which would prove otherwise.:)

lendaddy 02-07-2006 05:11 AM

Sometimes the best team wins the Championship, sometimes it doesn't. Just because J.B. Holmes wins a tournament, it doesn't mean he's better than Tiger Woods does it? Well there you go, the Steelers are J.B. Holmes:)
