Men arrested for using real money...

Yep, privately minted, real silver dollars. Damn them for casting doubt on US government faux money.

Buffalo lawyer takes Liberty dollar case

Buffalo News

2/5/2006

A Buffalo lawyer who has been crusading for change in local overnment is now representing two men accused of trying to buy beer with "Liberty silver dollars" at a Buffalo Sabres game.

Attorney James Ostrowski said he is representing Daniel Buczek, 55, and Buczek's son, Shane, 34. The two Derby men were arrested Dec. 26 at a Sabres game.

Ostrowski is president of Free Buffalo, a grassroots organization seeking tax cuts and widespread changes in local government policies.

"My position is that this whole incident should not have happened, and [the Buczeks] did nothing illegal," Ostrowski said on Saturday.

The Buczeks were charged with felony counts of criminal impersonation and possession of a forged instrument. A misdemeanor harassment charge also was filed. The two men deny the allegations, saying they were wrongly accused.

Police said the two Derby men were arrested after they tried to buy beer from "numerous" vendors with privately minted Liberty silver dollars.

The federal government says the dollars are not counterfeit, but adds that no business is required to accept them. http://blog.lewrockwell.com/

Not to be the thread archaeologist, but I read about this alternative "liberty dollar" in the paper over the weekend and fastpat's the only one that ever posted about it. Apparently, it's some sort of "barter currency". I looked it up...anyone ever seen one of these? Anyone ever heard of the Hawaiian mint? I haven't.

There's still room on the island...

Boy do I miss that guy. He would tie these trolls here in a knot.

Why am I not surprised to hear this....

I miss fastpat. A true Libertarian, very smart, well-read and engaging.

Now we have mule who is the polar opposite. and so the dumbing down of America continues, right here in our little Porsche microcosm.

I saw this thread and thought "Fastpat lives!" My second thought was how glad I am that he's gone. He's much more pleasant in memory than he was in real life.

m21sniper 07-02-2008 07:56 PM

Pat was amusing.

Pat is bright and articulated his positions well. While I often disagreed, I found his stuff well worth reading. His absence is a loss.

Tobra 07-02-2008 08:04 PM

he is still on my ignore list, population 3, though I may be mistaken on the number

how many no response threads do you suppose he started?

the 07-02-2008 08:17 PM

I never found that he really articulated any positions much at all. He just regurgitated some kind of weird party line, supported by long rambling pastes. Every time I asked him to try to explain, in detail, in his own words, he could *never* do it. He almost always had to simply ignore pointed questions that got to the core issues, when the answers had to rely on his own thoughts.

I don't think he should have been banned, though. At least not for the rambling stuff he posted. I think it was a combination of simply too much of the same pastes/posts over and over again, polluting every thread, combined with stuff that went on with moderators off line.

Fastpat was intractable in his ideology and as such it was like talking to a stone wall. Mule is very similar in his approach, however daylight can penetrate the darkness between his ears. .

Ditto.

He was a troll.
Not well informed. Well MIS-INFORMED maybe. He always avoided the very, very basic incontravertible facts and could never explain the logic of his position when cornered.

But it didn't matter because his sole purpose was to tick people off...which is exactly what trolls do.

He should have been banned much sooner.

Seahawk 07-03-2008 03:28 AM

Well over a year after being banned and he can still rankle:cool:

Pat and I email all the time...he has done a great job researching the particulars of getting in the vineyard business, which I plan on doing in a few years. He has been a tremendous source of information as I put my business plan together.

I miss his presence here, but what do I know...the only one on my ban list is Seahawk:)

KFC911 07-03-2008 03:40 AM

I simply ignored all of Pat's ideological links, political postings, etc. but found him to be very intelligent and likable. There's a lot who fall into that category for me :)

ps: Did seahawk say something?

...kidding of course

widgeon13 07-03-2008 03:55 AM

where's the pic of him looking like a terrorist aka "Omar the tent maker"

Yeah, a real funny guy???http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/puke.gif
