Opinions on the New Volvo S60R AWD

Guys - Thinking about buying a S60R AWD. This is the 2.5L turbo charged model - 300hp and 295ft.lbs of torque with the 6speed.

Any of you have any feedback on this car - that you can share?

I am not a Volvo guy really, but this car is sexxxy for a Sweedish brick! Not too mention damn quick (0-60mp/h in 5.4 secs)

Not real AWD. It's like Volkswagens in that it's FWD only most of the time. Only when the fronts start spinning is power diverted to the rear wheels. So you get none of the handling advantages of full-time AWD.

I see those getting TOWED back to the dealership that I work with. Don't buy anything Volvo. Even the service writers can't believe how bad these cars are.

My wife drives a 2003 S60 AWD (not the R). It was a great car till about 10,000 miles ago, when it would randomly not start. The first time they told me I had to replace an antenna in the steering collumn. You see, in all their great wisdom, the key is not cut, it has a chip in it that the car regognizes.

After replacing the antenna (for $150.00) it worked for a bout a week. Then it sstranded my wife about 60 miles from home. After gettign it towed the dealership, they determined it was the battery.

Long story short, the car has 58,000 miles on it, we leased it for 60,000 and it is getting turned in when the lease is done.

I think Volvo generally has problems with electronics in their cars.

My mom will never admit her car is unreliable or problematic, but her '95 960 needed a new MAF sensor recently, and the self-leveling back shocks ($500 per) need to be replaced.

OTOH, my dad's 230k 740 has been pretty strong, other than needing a trans flush. The older ones are like older Porsches, they have problems but still are built to last.

We had a '97 850 T-5 for 8 years. It was best car we ever owned. I would have bought this car in a heart beat but my wife test drove an Audi S4 and after that it was an easy decision. Be that as it may, had the Audi not entered the picture, we would have that car, but in blue!

Wow! I'm glad I'm reading this thread. We were thinking about getting a Volvo. I don't know much about them, honestly.

I did read in the recent Road & Track, that out of seven four-door, AWD cars, Volvo came in dead last.

Audi was first.

DD, different Volvo model in that issue, the smaller 40 series. The 60 is a much better car.

I walk past a S60R wagon every day. No idea about reliability, but it looks menacing.

I have to add to my post above that I think the S60R is a good looking car. Just not sure how the electronics will hold up.

I've had my '01 2.4T for almost 5 years and I still love it. No electrical issues.

I actually like the size of the 40 series. Size matters here in this town. Hmmm...I wonder what IPd can do for a 40 series.
