But that is for people that actually sit in the traffic. I go and find alternative routes to the same place. I hate traffic and do sit in if I absolutely have to but otherwise it is sometimes great to go the long way especially with the P-car.

According to CNN Money, my town (Wayne, NJ) is tied for first in terms of safest cities to live in in 2005 in the USA. I have the link at work that I'll post up on Monday - has other interesting top ten lists (highest median house value, number of graduate residence, highest income per household...etc) -Z

Things will not change until law enforcement and traffic design gets better, but it seems like a cold day in hell before that will happen. Left lane (of course you know this) is constantly clogged with people doing 50-55. Cops claim they can't do anything, because the idiots doing it are not breaking any law. I drive into SF each morning to work and on the Waldo grade (leading up to the GG bridge), the left lane is so full of idiots who can't maintain their speed and won't yield the lane that the only way to get there without downshifting to 4th or 3rd (!) is to cross over to the far right lane and cut lane to lane to avoid the busses and semis. I'm just amazed that with the amount of man hours wasted each year, no one in power will actually come up with some kind of plan to alleviate the stranglehold the idiots have over our freeways. Carter decreed the 55 MPH speed limit in 76 or so, and it's a lingering malaise 30 years later that just will not quit. When will we wake up and realize that modern vehicles (and Porsches!) are capable of doing more than 55 safely? We desperately need a better driver training program and various grades of licenses that would restrict certain vehicles\drivers to the right most lanes and certain speeds to maintain traffic flow. Until we get our head out of our asses and address this problem, it'll be HELLO GRIDLOCK! IANC

Portland OR is not on the clogged list? I find that amazing, since those who masquerade as "leaders" there are anti automobile, pro light rail, and with zoning laws, want everybody to live on top of each other.

California is the greatest place in the world(This was true in the 1970's). The money that should have been spent on infrastructure over the last 40 years was spent on other things, free healthcare and education for illegal immigrants, awesome retirement for state employees, etc, etc. They tax more than anywhere else, and have marginal everything(schools, roads, bridges). It brings to mind a bumper sticker I used to have. "Welcome to California, now go home"

The key is to live 2 blocks from where you work (like I do), and save the Porsche driving for the back roads on the weekends. Life is too short to waste 1/12 of it (or more) commuting every day.
