procon,

You wouldn't by chance be in need of an apprentice, would you? I've seen all the pics you've posted of your projects and all I can say is WOW! I'd love to be able to do this stuff. I love working with my hands and wood and such, but knowing all the little nuances/tricks/trade secrets would be great!

Very nice work, indeed!

Randy

Beautiful!

It'd be great to see the worth of the house then and now.

Wow!! Looking at the roof line that house has had some major changes.

I also like the trees. They are saplings in the 1st Photo and big beefy trees in the second. I love seeing then and now pics. Thanks for sharing.

actually, i kinda doubt those are the original trees..was thinking on that myself..unless they're oak and then maybe. still, it would be cool if they are.

As far as tricks of the trade go, I suggest having a look at www.taunton.com/index.asp Truth be told, I've learned a great deal through my subscriptions to Fine Homebuilding & Fine Woodworking over the years.
I agree with that, I did remodeling for years, and always found those to be by far the best remodeling and woodworking magazines out there. This Old House is ok, but it always came across as self serving to me. If you want to get specific, the small Taunton books that they sell online, as well as Lowe's and HD, are a great way to get more in-depth with a certain topic. In the end, the best way is just try it, you learn best through your own mistakes.

Maple on the left, Cedar on the right & based on their size, I would have to say that they are original.
maple trees have life spans of 75-100 years..cedars more than a hundred, so i tend to believe the one on the right is more likely original than the maple on left. what are we seeing..112 years here?

More great work Pro!

Need another project? Our 47' Tudor is kicking my butt. Four rooms done, hall and garage almost done and four rooms left to go... No Pcar time or money now but the place is looking good.
