St. Louis Attractions? This weekend?

OK Gang, I'm thinking of taking the family to St. Louis for a couple of days as part of a trip to go pick up a car.

I'm thinking the Gateway Arch for sure, but what else?

SuperCross is in town.
Smaller version of the original Bass Pro is in St. Charles.
Where are you staying?
It's going to be cold this weekend so most outdoor deals won't be much fun...

I know there is a great night life. We went there last year and hit the Monster Truck Museum and the Great Wolf Lodge (indoor water park). Here is a pic of the rascale looking out the window at the Arch - pretty cool of the first 3 minutes, I got bored but the kids looked out that darn window for 15 minutes!

Anheuser-Busch tour. Say what you want about the beer, but it's a cool tour. Plus you get free beer at the end and the kids can see loads of big machinery.

Also try to find an Italian place that has toasted ravioli. It's a misnomer since it's actually deep-fried, but it's damn good and hard to find outside of STL.

opps! You are right...I knew it was in MO cuz I dragged the fam through the midwest on a tour I did. All those darn towns seem to blend together after awhile.

Duh! No water park? The kids (2 boys) have requested a hotel with an indoor pool. But if we can find an indoor water park near by, they'll be in heaven!

The Arch is good. City Museum? Maybe...we have some good ones in Chicago.

What is the "Hill?" I love to get well, and I am often disappointed when we dine out.

Soukus, City museum is a kid-oriented type of place. Lots of slides and tunnels and such.
The hill is an Italian neighborhood just Southwest of downtown. Really good food. Shouldn't have a hard time finding a hotel with a pool....

Dan- the Hill sounds like fun. The City Museum will be submitted for committee approval tonight when I get home

So the Arch and the City Meseum are on the table.\

Now the big concern.

I'll be hauling the race car trailer to the area. I need to leave the trailer for a day somewhere. I can't see me pulling the trailer to The Hill and to the Arch. LOL!

So any recommendations?

We're probably going to cash in some of my Holiday Inn reward points, so I may ask the hotel desk if it's OK for me to leave the trailer on their lot for a day or two. They might not like me drilling into the pavement to lock the sucker down though

Souk,

For a really nice dinner, if you like Japanese food, try Robata in the Westport shopping center. Top of the building with views all around the Western part of the city. Excellent food and a good show...

I believe Robata's closed for good about 6 months ago.

If you have kids you really should go to the City Museum - the place is absolutely nuts. Pay extra for MonstroCity it's worth it.

I have a long driveway that can accomodate your trailer. I live about 8 miles from the Arch and 3 from the Hill on the central corridor.

Joe,

I'm not sure the kids and Heather will enjoy Japanese as much as I do

But it sounds damn good! I haven't had great Japanese (or Sushi) since I moved away from Tallahassee where I knew the owner of a Sushi-Japanese restaurant. Of course now I'm allergic to sheel fish..so no more sweet shrip or shrimp tampura...DOH! And I have to be careful with the sushi...dang this gettng old business!

Dan, I just checked out the City Museum website...looks like a good place to take the kids! Thanks for the tip off.

Ditto that.

I went down to St. Louis on a college field trip. We did the Federal Reserve, A.G. Edwards headquarters, Hooters for lunch (we each drank a pitcher) and then hit Anheuser Busch. I didn't like their beer before the tour, but since I have to say that Budweiser is my favorite "macro-brew". Plus, we got to sit with the VP of Finance in the sample room for two hours...

The tour is very family friendly. They explain about the hops and barley, show you the draught horses, you see a movie on the history of A-B. The buidings are very cool. All are red brick and have the year they were built over the main doorway. They range from 1880 to 1997...

Legion, I would have fun..and might even get lost in the brewery somewhere, but two boys 9 and 12 will go bananas...LOL. Unless of course they sneak off with me and I teach them how to drink a few bears without taking a breath!
