The Best Offers! WTF ?!?!?

I think my PC has herpes.

Every time I change web pages on FireFox, I get pop-up ads from "The Best Offers".

I have my pop-up blocker enabled and I have run both Ad-Aware and Spy-bot, but I'm still getting the ads.

Is there a cure, or have I contracted "the gift that keeps on giving"?

You may want to use Microsofts free anti-spyware (Looks like it's incorporated into Defender) software and CCleaner. Both excellent products.

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

www.ccleaner.com

"Windows Defender (Beta 2) is a free program that helps protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware and other unwanted software. It features Real-Time Protection, a monitoring system that recommends actions against spyware when it's detected, and a new streamlined interface that minimizes interruptions and helps you stay productive."

I found this http://vil.mcafeesecurity.com/vil/content/v_136251.htm
but nothing really useful on removing it. Sounds like it's 'semi-legit' ie you agreed to install it in an EULA on which you clicked "OK"

Did you mean to say "only the best offers"?

Have you by any chance seen any icons on your desktop/toolbar that look like IE, but upon closer inspection are amusingly spelled "Exsplorer"?

I had this "Only the Best Offers" crap on my computer after the cleaning guy at my previous office decided to look at porn for an hour and a half on my computer one night. I used bleach on everthing. Gross.

Anyhow, Adaware and SpyBot could not rid me of it. I ended up doing this:

1) Go to ad/remove programs, and remove anything that looks wrong. Chances are, teh really bad stuff won't let you remove it.

2) run-> regedit. Then use the search function within regedit to search words you've seen in these popups (look in the title bars). Delete everything you find.

To do this thoroughly takes a REALLY long time. Took me like an hour. If you have an Operating System reinstallation disc, you could also backup everything, format the harddrive and reinstall. I have found this is a good idea every year or so anyhow.

There's this, but I don't trust it.

Also, do you ZoneAlarm or something similar?

If it was me, I'd run the uninstaller, but watch my traffic with ethereal to see what it was doing.

I found it!

My son was pissed that I deleted the latest episode of "Gray's Anatomy" from the Tivo, so I downloaded Kazaa to see if I could find the episode. When I tried to uninstall the adware, it informed me that I had consented to the install when I downloaded Kazaa. Kazaa gone, ads gone. Gray's Anatomy re-run last night, son no longer pissed. ( I think he's hot for the blond intern). Thanks for the help!

Torrents are better for tv shows, and you're less likely to get ITDs, as long as you're even a little careful about it.

For p2p stuff, use Limewire.

+1

I use torrents for TV shows I watch. I work evenings, except Monday (so I get to see the Jack Bauer Power Hour when it airs), so I have to download all my TV shows. I copy the files to my new Ipod Nano and watch a few every evening while I'm at work and it's slow.

I think Kazza lite doesn't as much or any of the adware....may not be the case any longer.

Fu*king ads are still there. I can't uninstall Kazaa. It tells me to stop all running programs, check my internet connection and my temporary files (whatever they are). I'm freaking pissed!

The fu*king ads are back! I ran the "best offers uninstaller". No help. I need to finish deleting Kazaa, but it won't let me.

Is there a way to manually delete Kazaa related files? A search for "Kazaa" reveals no files, but Kazaa appears in the "Add or change files" list. I'm not real familiar with windows stuff, but it's becoming clear why I've used Macs all these years. Anyway, any help would be appreciated.
