Mercedes E320 CDI...for pulling tree stumps?
369lbs of torque. The thing pulls like a train. For a diesel it is very quiet. The power is just awesome. Hard to get used to the low revs....
Do MB dealers haggle at all?

WTF?!?!?!
"The E320 CDI Sedan does not meet the emissions requirements of California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York or Vermont and is not available in these states." So a car that gets 37 mpg and can run on bio diesel can not be driven in these states? What a crock of crap.

I get a driver in Italy that has one of those. I agree, the power is awesome. He drives like a Roman, which he is, and anything less than awesome would not work for him.
Unless you caught a whiff of the exhaust, you would not know it was a diesel.

Unbelievably fantastic car, but then I'm very partial to direct injection diesels. I hope that they come out w/ a wagon version and offer it in AWD, that would be my dream used car once they get ~100k miles on them. (Broken in).

The 320CDI will not pass California's current emission standards ( the other 4 states you mentioned adopt the same standards) because of particulates emitted. Mercedes has just announced a new system they call BLUETEC, to deal with particulates, <http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/tw/bluetec.htm> so it looks like CA will get the new Merc TD later this year. California at least, has the low-sulfer diesel. Last thing I read, the other states did not.
I suspect if Audi is successful at Sebring and LeMans this year, it could go a long way to opening some (and wallets) of potential buyers. Les
