so we get covered in a sheet of about half an inch of ice down here in little rock. i live in a hilly neighborhood. today, after being stuck, unable to go anywhere for two days..the ice melts away..completely..i'm talking dry asphalt, not even wet! so, as i'm working in the dining room thinking of taking a drive, what do i hear? a friggin' salt/sand truck comes clanking by my house spraying its **** everywhere....now??!! after it's gone??! where were they two days ago..or better yet, the night before it was supposed to hit?? now i have to drive through all this crap. i know this is why you northern guys keep your cars in winter hibernation, but now i gotta wait for rain to wash this **** out of my neighborhood. i went outside and looked at them, arms in the air, shaking my head on about their second or third pass..they just looked back at me like morons. arrrrrrrghhhhhh!!!!! this is like showing up with the firetruck the day after your house burns to the friggin' ground..

But you know someone, somewhere, as the freezing rain started, issued the order,"Get every street salted. I don't care how long it takes!" Then, smug in the fact he/she had done their job, turned their mind off and the minions went to work. The minions (or a private contractor, who probably doesn't get paid if no work is done), dutifully went out and said,"Hey, we get overtime if we work through the weekend!"
Don't feel too bad, it'll be another 7 - 8 weeks before all the salt is washed off of our roads and I can take the old E out for her first Spring run. ![]() Les

Remeber a couple of years ago when the ice storm hit in LR and people went out with shotguns shooting it off the power lines? Now that was funny!

It happens up here too. They were salting the roads last Thursday...the day after a big storm came through and missed us...

The winter that I lived in Charleston, it snowed. Well, technically, I mean ... I'm from North Idaho, so I almost didn't notice, it was so little snow. We're talking a light dusting, maybe a half an inch, and it was almost all melted by 9am when the sun came out.
But the city was paralyzed. Nobody knew what to do. They didn't have salt trucks, and they didn't have gravel trucks, but they did have dirt trucks, so somebody ordered that loads of dirt be dumped on the bridges. When the snow started melting, we were left with mud, which was a lot more slick than the melting snow would have been. The best sighting on that one, though, was the guy with chains. It was one of these hooptie-cars, you know the kind, an older domestic sedan, heavily tinted windows, gold trim, 22" wheels, license plate that reads "MR NIXON," or something similarly pimpin'. With chains. Driving real slow. "Schoonk. Schoonk. Schoonk," they went. It was pretty funny, but maybe you had to be there.
