Perplexing paint mixing problems - need help from math guys!
It's actually for an epoxy primer.
1 quart primer taxes 1/2 ounce of hardener. But I only need to mix 8 ounces of primer. So how much hardener? I figured .75 teaspoons (3/4 of a teaspoon). But it doesn't seem to come out right. Here's my math: 1 qt = 32 oz. 1/2 oz = 3 tsp. I want 8 oz, so that's 1/4 of a quart. So I need to use 1/4 of the hardener, which would be .75 tsp. (1/4th of 3 tsp = .75). Where am I going wrong, math dudes! |

Set up a ratio (assuming your conversions are correct-I didn't check)
32 oz over .5 oz = 8 oz over X 8*.5= 4 4/32= .125 oz hardener If 1/2 oz = 3 tsp like you say (I didn't check) .125 oz would be .75 tsp But then again I stink at math, so wait for another opinion.

1 Qt. = 32 oz
You want 8 oz which is 25% of a quart 0.5 oz of hardener x 0.25 =0.125 oz. or 1/8 of an ounce.

I'm curious as to what kind of epoxy primer you are using. The epoxies I've used are 4:1 or 2:1 ratio for primer to activator.

Ok, never used that brand. I see that their epoxy mix ratio is 2:1 which is similar to other brands.
