Anyone try opening their car with their cell phone?
I heard this but have not verified it. If your locked out or lose your key, you can open your car if you have a cell signal with another person that has another of the cars remotes with them. You hold your phone to your car and they operate the remote. I'll have to test it unless someone else beats me to it.

doubt it would work.....most all transmitters are RF which cannot be transmitted over a phone IIRC

Yes, it worked with my Toyota. It unlocked the doors but it set off the alarm. Once I put the keys in the ignition and started it up the alarm shut off. But yes it worked for me.

I tried with the company Buick it didn't work. Its not a tone, its a radio signal, don't see how it would work, but if it did for you that's cool.

i've been beating on my door handle all afternoon. only managed to break the faceplate off of the cell phone. are you 100% sure of this method? i'd think a crowbar might get me inside faster..or just break the window....

Does it work with non power locks as well? Neither of my cars have pwr locks and I have a habit of locking my car key in my Toyota.

Use the back side of the cell phone, that way you won't damage the face plate or numbers!

Sounds like this could be the basis for a great urban myth! |

I have a '98 Toyota and it WORKED. See above.... Since this thread I tried it on my wifes '01 Chevy Blazer too. She had a remote stater installed and with that key fob it DID NOT work. So we dug out her factory key fobs and IT WORKED. Her alarm never went off. I used my cell phone and she used the home phone.

I took both the cars apporx .25 miles away. Maybe I'm wrong, but key fobs usually don't work that far away. It worked on two cars that we own. All I can say is PROVE ME WRONG.... I don't post BS only facts that I KNOW/EXPERIENCE!!
I'm done with this thread. If it works for you great if it doesn't then I don't know what to tell you. IT HAD WORKED FOR ME TWICE!!! Good Luck!

I heard it on my XMRADIO on a commercial for technical breaking news. The commentator who host a car show on one of the stations tried it and it worked. I seriously doubt they would dispel an urban myth to all their listeners. Just haven't had a chance. Obviously its a high (out of our hearing range) audio signal for some remotes that can work.

I don't see why the RF signal transmitted by the remote couldn't modulate the (much higher) RF frequency of the cell phone and be carried over the cell connection the same way your voice is.
