Question: Truck has 265/75 tires: factory says 265/70

My truck (2001 Dodge Dakota) has 265/75 R16 tires on them. Factory calls for 265/70. What will the extra 5 do for the tires? What dimension is the 75?

Time for new ones so I'm ordering 265/70 but wondered why someone would put the 75 on (previous owner)? These tires are constantly losing air so wondering if that has anything to do with it.

Michael

The 75s are just a tiny bit taller than the 70s.

Nothing to do with loosing air.

the 75 is the aspect ratio. The recomende tires are 70 percent of the width of the tire (265). The tires on there now will make your speedo read a little slower than it accutally is and will give your a longer final drive gear. All that will do is reduce your RPMS at any given speed, but it most likely wont be that noticable if you switch back to the 70 aspect ratio instead of the 75 on there now.

About the air leaking form the tires put the tires in a rubbermade tub, make sure they are complety underwater and try to find where the air is leaking from. Althought it is unlikely there might be somthing wrong with the wheels and getting new tires wont fix the problem.
