I think the best thing that can be said about that chart is that there is very little correlation between displacement and horsepower.
About the only correlation I have seen that has merit is the correlation between displacement and torque. For a given engine configuration (flat-6 for example) torque is basically a function of displacement. Horsepower is all over the place, though. Mike

Well, I learned something new from the link. Not only is a two stroke diesel engine in operation/production, it's quote: The Most Powerful Diesel Engine in the World!

I'd like to see their tool box and torque wrench.

Two-stroke gasoline < Four-stroke gasoline < Four-stroke diesel < Two-stroke diesel. Two stroke diesels have exhaust valves (the intake occurs when the piston drops below an intake port--like a 2-stroke gasoline engine) and they must have a turbocharger to work. Every cylinder fires every revolution of the crankshaft. The turbocharger ensures that air flows into the cylinders.

Diesel can be four stroke or two stroke, however the two stroke must have a turbocharger or a supercharger.
All I know is on this page. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/diesel-two-stroke1.htm Quote:

How do 2-stroke engines work in general? Is there no compression stroke?
EDIT: Never mind, I'm reading about them right now on that site linked above.
