Bay watch: cool guitar
(Not Spam, no affiliation with the seller)
I know that we all despise the bay for car parts, but it rules absolutely for finding oddball guitars. Im going to try to live vicariously through a few of you with these threads since I cant buy any more guitars for a while. Its the 'Greco' labeled version of the '75-'76 Ibanez Rocket Roll. Same guitar, Greco = Ibanez. Not the most authentic '58 copies out there, but pretty nice guitars. Nice enough for Gibson to sue Ibanez over them. This is one of the more well known Japanese lawsuit guitars. Cool thing about this one is that it has a 4 ply pick guard. This is a detail that was on the original Gibson guitars that seems to get missed on all of the clones and even the Gibson Historic Reissues. The 4 ply material is practically unobtanium. Im a total geek for '58 Flying V copies/replicas and this is one of the nicer versions of this particular guitar that I've ever seen for sale. It should be bring $800-$1000 easily. Dang Shuie, nice find. I'm tempted, as I refuse to own an actual Gibson.

I hear ya, Wolfe. I've got a used Historic that I'll hold onto until I find a better replica. I'm going to buy at least one of the handmade replicas and then Im going to start buying tools/templates to build my own.

OK, in spite of the Gibson bashing...am I wrong to lust after this guitar?!?!?!?:
![]() I simply love this guitar. Ebony fretboard, chrome hardware, '60s neck....I just love it.... Too bad it's $2500.... Mike

It came to my attention recently that the wood they are claiming is Mahogany is, in fact, not mahogany at all but a relative of mahogany. I forget what it is, but it's stained to look like mahogany. They're pulling the wool over people's eyes in several areas in this respect. The one I can easily prove is the wire they wind the Burstbucker pickups with. It's not what they've led people to believe it is. |

Several years ago, at a NAMM show, I was told that when Gibson left Michigan, they left the original equipment and machinery at the old site and a company called "Heritage Guitars" started at the old place, using the old equipment. The old guys at the Heritage Guitar booth built the guitars "by hand" and they were beautiful and sounded great. I'm a drummer myself and I would buy a Rickenbacker 4003 stereo bass in a heartbeat if I had the time to learn how to play it...

mij lawsuit guitars
hey man
I have a 1980 Burny Super Grade 58 les paul clone and it is the best les paul I've ever owned. Better than my bandmate's 2003 Gibson '1960 classic' honeyburst. I love japanese lawsuit guitars. I took out the VH-1 series pickups and installed Seymour Duncan JB bridge/59 neck ones. It's now one of my main live guitars. Tokai Les Paul Reborn, Reborn Old, and Love Rock models, plus Orville and Orville by Gibson les pauls, and the Greco Super Mints are all dead on approximations of the 50's models. Here's a pic: I paid under $500 for it. ![]() also: those old mij ibanez/greco flying v's were good enough for Bob Mould when he was in Husker Du. Though I believe he played a 'rock and roll jr' model.
