Info to help you with 2 acres is outta my league... I grow my grass with a hydroponics table set up in our basement.

pre-emerge is where I'm heading. Unfortunately, you cannot buy in liquid form without a license. You can buy fertilizer with pre-M. You need to visit one of your local lawn supply/landscaping supply stores. They will have recommendations (based on your climate and species of grass) of what to use and when.

I haven't gone one full year with this new program, but I believe it will cost me around $75/yr per yard (5000-6000 SF per yard). Spraying will be cheaper, but you'll have to go underground to get the chemicals.

You may also need a soil analysis.

There are many forums and sites (pelican equivalent) for lawn care. I would suggest starting with Walter Reeves site. Even though it is Georgia centric, it has a lot of transferable information to the Kentucky area. It may also have links to other more appropriate resources. Garden Web is also a good place to start.... there are TONS of forums on almost any gardening subject you could imagine.

(Gardening is my second hobby to cars)

HTH!

2 acres? I'd have a 5000sqft shop and a small kart track

Do you know what varieties are there, and what issues were being treated? Is it irrigated? I can help you along depending on the type of turfgrass.

Find your nearest LESCO. They cater to pros but will sell to homeowners. You typically need five treatments:
1. Pre-emergent weed control and fertilizer March/April
2. Fertilizer and broadleaf weed control April/May
3. Fertilizer and insecticide and/or fungicide June
4. Fertilizer Sept. Now is a good time to aerate and overseed at a rate of 5 lbs. of quality seed per 1000 sq. ft.
5. Fertilizer Oct.
Each Lesco bag covers 13-18,000 square feet and will cost $10-$30 depending on formulation. You will need 6 bags per treatment and a good calibrated broadcast spreader ($150-300)
Good Luck.
