Input on memory foam mattresses
 

Hi

I am going to buy a memory foam mattress. I am wondering if they are as good as the salesman said. I wake up with pain in my shoulders every morning.

The mattress store had mattresses ranging from $600 to $2000. I could hardly tell the difference, except the $2k one had tilt and vibrate. I am thinking of going with the cheap one even though I spend 1/4 of my life on the thing.

So anybody have one?

I think my bro had a foam mattress. I could call him later if you want? He spends big bucks on that stuff because of shoulder pain without the right for him mattress.

My bride has back problems and needs one of those regular types that have the thick pads on the top and bottom. It took her 2sec to test it at the store and know that was the one. I could look at the tag if interested in trying out one of those?

I have neck problems and have wondered if this would help. I use one of the contoured foam pillows made out of the same materials as the pricey mattress and it helps.

Calling your bro would be great if it isn't too much trouble.

I also got one of those foam pillows and it helped my neck but puts more pressure on my shoulders.

ok.. he's in lala land so it'll happen late today. He's a pia to the mattress shops as he returns them if they ain't perfect.

The only negative I've heard is that if you shift positions, it takes a while for the bed to conform to your new position.

Would you drive a car with no springs, only shock absorbers? You need both in your mattress: can't beat a good spring mattress with a generous layer of latex foam built in to the top.

It's foam. Doesn't breathe too well. No edge suports either.

Try something that's a pillowtop if you're a side sleeper, or a plush if you're on your stomach time to time.

me I can sleep on rocks and have.. My lady , (2 shoulder surg. already) well we have bought them all, and thankfully I have a friend who works for one of those matt. co. So I have a 4K matt, ( I paid $700 ) which did not solve her problems, went to SAM's and got the memory foam pad 1 1/2 inches thick, about 200 bucks. Even I can tell the difference. Suggest you try the pad first, if it's going to help you will know..that maybe all you need.

Get a Chattam & Wells with a cushion top and you will never sleep better. They are pricey though, I think mine was around $3500. But you use it everynight! And it takes a beating;) .

We tried the foam beds, but settled on a ComfortAire bed that is an air mattress with a foam pad and we love it. We've purchased 5 of these beds in the past year (us, kids, grandfather) from Nationwidemattress.com and have been very satisfied. I don't work for the company or represent them, just a satisfied customer. The foam beds just seemed to be too warm for us... maybe it was just us!!

After the last thread dealing with mattresses between 1,000 and 20,000 bucks, I went for an IKEA sultan hasselhoff...I sleep like a champ. If I want foam I can buy a piece and throw it atop my $350 cheepo.

A recently ordered online a 4 inch thick memory foam mattress topper for 100 bucks. I put it on my old mattress, and it works fantastic. I am glad I did that rather than spending thousands of dollars on a new mattress. The result is the same.

I have neck problems and my wife has 2 bad discs. We bought a comfort select air matress with a memory foam top. I don't know how I slept for so long without one. When I wake up I'm in the same position I fell asleep in, no flipping around. It's also nice to be able to change the firmness at the touch of a button, You would be amazed that what was comfortable last night isn't gonna cut it tonight. Give ona a good look before you buy.

I talked with the salesman again and he said we have a 2 week money back thingie with the mattress. And since our mattress is 25 years old now, I think we are going to get the $600 foam mattress and see what happens.

Where on line did you get the $100 4" memory foam topper? The lowest price I could find was $200 for a single and $400 for a queen.

I had an off-brand 3" foam 'topper' on my previous mattress. It was hella comfortable... but after a couple months, there was a permanent dent in it from my ass. Turn it, flip it, either way, my ass was always right in the middle, and the dent became permanent.

Not sure about the whole mattresses that are made out of the stuff, but it seems to me there might be a risk of the stuff 'setting' from usual positions.

Sonno matress from Design Within Reach. That's what Ive been sleeping on for about a year. My other bed, which my ex has is the McCroskey Airflex. I love the Sonno, it makes it hard to wake up in the morning though. It's really a new level sleeping experience. I'd either go memory foam, or McCroskey. McCroskey is made by hand in SF!!!
