Austin, Texas in March?

My Wife and I will be celebrating our 40th Anniversary on March 19th. I was thinking of taking her on a surprise trip to Austin, Texas. Do the Riverwalk, etc. I checked the weather and notice it is usually in the 70's this time of year. Any suggestions from our Texan Pelicans would be greatly appreciated. Things to do, places to see. Or if you don't think Austin is a good destination place? Just doing a 3-4 day trip. Thanks,

Austin is a fine choice, however the riverwalk that you could be refering to is in San Antonio. SA is a very nice tourist city with much to see and do and eat. Very texas, where as Austin can be described as Cali of texas. Either spot is nice, hell see them both as they are only 2+ hrs apart.

Austin is cool, but is definitely the hippie city of Texas and as bivenator said, the riverwalk is in San Antonio.

The Austin and Houston Porsche Club will be on the last day of
a Club race in College Station Tx. This is about 1 1/2 hours
out of Austin. If you are going to San Antonio for the Riverwalk
Sea world, 6 Flags ect. that is a great place. I might suggest
staying at the Masion Del Rio. 5 star hotel on the riverwalk
if you are staying in San Antonio, The Driskel in Austin is
a great place. If you have never been to Texas, San Antonio
is the best place, the Alamo is there, Texas histroy at its best !
they have a I-Max theater right across the street from the
Alamo, which is right by the riverwalk. I see you are from
the SF bay area, Austin is alot like the Napa valley
area as far as people go, like Steve said... lots of old
hippies. The Hill Country is very beautiful, it would take
more than 3 or 4 days to see all Austin has to offer.
Austin is a college town, UT. 6th street is a big attraction
if you like to bar hop and listen to live music. Austin
is the live music capital. www.austin360.com
has good info on Austin. Hope this helps !
congratulations on your anniversary !

If you're going to be here for a little while, drive out to Llano and eat at Cooper's Pit Barbecue. It is THE BEST FREAKIN BBQ in the world. I $hit you not, you'll be hurtin trying to eat just a little more.

Otherwise, there's probably more touristy stuff in San Antonio. There is a lot within walking distance of the Alamo. Lots of stuff on or near the Riverwalk.

I have never been to Cooper's, but if it's better than The Salt Lick
in Driftwood, Tx. then it must be awesome!! If you could bottle the smell, you would make a fortune.
While in Austin, also eat TexMex at Chuy's. (neat place with good food)
The Alamo is a must see in San Antonio. It's pretty much cross the street and down the stairs to the Riverwalk. (More great paces to eat!) I guess all I do is eat when I'm in Texas.

Coopers is 1000x better than Salt Lick. And Salt Lick is pretty good, IMHO.

Sorry, but Clark's Outpost in Tioga, TX (few miles north of Dallas) beats both Salt Lick and Coopers by a country mile

Kerry, bring it on !! Been on all 3 (and then some) and in my not so humble opinion Clark's is better.

N11Porsche, Austin and San Antonio are perfect destinations. If you want to make it even better drive from Austin to Fredericksburg and then to San Antonio. Perfect 3 or 4 days getaway. Lots of things to see and do.

Hey Jordi.....I'll have to try that, never been there. I've got a new ride to take on journeys. The Targa is going to be my morning drive in anger/track car.

Hmm...might be a road trip in my future! I loves good BBQ!

Maybe if the little sister lands in OKC for the summer, I'll go visit and swing by there on the way.
