why is my standby button shaded?

right, im hoping this is the last PC question ill have here for a while.....

Ive re installed XP and now my standby button is shaded and unusable. how do i get it back?!

thanks wayne, i re installed usinf the dell disk but didn't have any others that came with the laptop. ill email them and see what they say.

You could also visit dell.com and download all the specific drivers for your model.

It's most likely the graphics driver. If your using a generic video driver, chances are it's not going to support ACPI (necessary for "standby").

Go to Dell.com, type in the code for your laptop (its on the bottom) and that will lead you to your driver list. Download them and install and you are good to go.

Most likely a chipset driver, or there might be extra software that needs to be installed for the extra buttons. I work at Dell, but don't do portables, but IIRC, it does require some peice of software to program those buttons.
