Area of oil removed from the earth each year

I think I did it right. So what would you think the area of oil removed from the earth each year (current data)in cubic miles is?

edit: Wow, excuse the sloppy typing on the title

the empty volume is filled in with water - one of the the reasons the oceans are residing. Fortunitly, the ice caps are melting allowing the level to come back resroring the balence of things

Lube

That's brilliant, I knew brine flooding units in Texas had their purpose. (Enhanced oil recovery by stuffing the brine that comes up with the oil back into the formation to push more oil out).

Lube, do you mean naturally it fills with water or that they pump it in to prevent settling?

Well anyway, when I ran the numbers I get just over 1 cubic mile a year. Much less than I would have guessed.

Get through the rock and either you hit water or you hit oil if you drill deep enough. Just like Vegas - bet enough and you will hit sometime - not a question of if but rather when.

Water is ubiquitous – like life, it will find a way. Problem is, it doesn’t support much load hence sink holes.
