Your dog's face looks like Nick Nolte in this picture!!

Funny, I thought the same thing, until we had a friend over to the house who was talking to my sister, and was being somewhat loud and animated.

At one point in the story, he kind of lunged towards my sister, and "Katie", our lovable Golden Retriever, took him seriously.

It freaked the crap out of all of us.

She turned into Kujo in a second... hair raised, snarling, and doing a damn good job of protecting one of her family.

I had a new respect for her protection abilities after that.

Scary looking (half pit/bull terrier, half Choc lab), probably enough to keep someone out. But a kind and gentle soul - the best companion ever.

Now if you are a ground dwelling vermin, well, he kills one a week. And can puncture a fully-inflated basketball in 10 seconds or less.

And this is Chip with his friend, Gabby the neurotic Doberman. This beautiful dog (we call her the supermodel) is scared of everything.

But when my wife and Gabby's mom walked these two dogs down the street, they were given a wide berth!!:D

She's not going to do any damage, but gives plenty of warning that it may be time to breack out the high power.
