Classic Car magazines
Ok. I get Car and Driver (mostly for Brock Yates) and I get Road and Track (mostly for Peter Egan).
I get Excellence - and the Esses. I used to get Collector Car, but I think they've gone belly up. How come there aren't more classic car magazines? Is there no demand? Or am I missing some - especially as related to European classics. Besides the Pelican BBS, what are you reading?

I read R+T, C+D, Excellence, 911 and Porsche World, Total 911, GT Purely Porsche, European Car and just recently got back into Modern Drummer. I like to read about all cars but the list gets too expensive to cover all of the vehicles.

In London now and always pick up a "Classic Car" and "911 and Porsche World" over here. "Excellence" is still the best but the UK mags are very good as well.
Wish there was a cheaper way to subscribe to them but I have not found it yet. Joe

Something that you read after working on the 911 too much. Late at night you open them up and look at the pictures and drool... it helps at times!

Octane. No question. Expensive, but worth it. Great columns by Jay Leno, Sir Stirling Moss, and Nick Mason. Even though UK based, they do from time to time feature American iron.
http://www.octane-magazine.com/ Recently, Motor Trend has launched Motor Trend Classic that is almost a direct copy asthetically of Octane, but the content is not as good. A beef I have with them is that they use photos previousely used in other magazines. Nevertheless, a cheap alternative to Octane. |

Yep, I get Road & Track and Excellence, but I also get Octane and Motorsport for the classic car content. They are pricey because they are based in the UK, but it's worth it.

My Urologist is a Euro car nut. I joke with him having the best car magazine collection around. The one mag I find myself reading everytime I go (which is thankfully infrequent) is Sports Car Market. Gives a different perspective on whats going on in the classic (mostly) euro car world.

Classic & Sports car is my favorite, with Practical Classics being close second. Both UK publications... very different than the north american stuff. I find the writing is fantastic, and very eclectic mix of cars & projects.
My other favorite magazine is This Old House. Every issue, I find useful information... it has literally saved me hundreds of dollars over the past year. Used to buy R&T, but now Peter Egan's columns are available online or in his books. R&T doesn't even have decent Salon Articles anymore.

Only car magazine I get now is the 356 Registry mag (well worth the $35/y alone) but I've got hundreds of old car mags - R&T from the early 50s thru 80s, Sports Car Illustrated (which became Car & Drive) from late 50s on to 80s, Sports Car Graphic, etc.
I really need to build a DB of these so I can sell 'em

I get Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car. Great, real world stories combined with unobtainium.

I also recently started subscribing to Hemmings "Sports and Exotic Car" and find it to be fun and interesting with a variety of cult classic features as well as unique and rare cars, very down to Earth presentation.

Try Hemmings "Sports& Exotic Car". Lots of European classic articles and as others have said, a "very down to earth presentation".

Just one mag coming into the house now: Sports Car International. The articles are short, but these guys write like they don't care if they EVER get any more advertising.
