What to do in Los Angeles?
Hey all you Los Angeles folks, I will be in Los Angeles Wed-Fri traveling with the wife (she will be working) and was wondering what I should do? Can you all give me some hints and Ideas?
We will be staying in the San Gabriel area. I thought about going by Pelican and TRE.... But what else should I do?

I live in the San Gabriel Valley, in Pasadena. What are you looking to do? Porsche related stuff, general car related stuff or just sightseeing in general? A couple of thoughts:
The Peterson Auto Museum is in L.A. and worth a look if you've never been there. While you're there you can go to Farmer's Market/The Grove. Both nice tourist locations and an easy way to spend the afternoon. If you want to poke around in general there is the Huntington Library in Arcadia. Old Town in Pasadena is touristy and a nice place to eat/kill an afteroon plus the Rusnak dealership is at the west end of Colorado Blvd and you can go nuts looking at Porsches, Audi's, Bentley's and Jag's there. Hell, just looking at the cars in line for service is a treat there! Santa Anita racetrack is in Arcadia too.....I'm thinking, thinking. Others will chime in with LOTS of places I have forgotten. Really depends how far you are willing to drive. L.A. traffic, even mid day is awful anymore.

Disneyland, and Disney's California Adventure, The Queen Mary in Long Beach, Universal Studios, the Getty is great, make reservations for parking, entry is free. Drive the rental car through the Malibu hills so that when you read about the Sunday runs, you'll have a first hand experience.

Go to the peterson Automotive Museum - one of the best in the world! It's on Wilshire - I think.

Hugh is right, all those places.
If you go to the Peterson from the SGV, get to the 10 Fwy- the "Santa Monica" fwy, also known as the San Bernardino Fwy in the eastern part of L.A. exit on Fairfax and go north or right until you hit Wilshire. You'll know you're there because (last time I was there) there will be a NASCAR racecar hanging on the wall! There are other ways of getting there...LOTS of ways actually but if you go anywhere toward downtown - what passes for a skyline here - you'll be using the directions I just gave more or less.

If the weather is clear, a trip to the top of Stunt and Puima (off Mulholland) is mandatory! You'll get a great view, have a good drive and recognize the roads from all of the postings on Pelican. A drive along PCH is mandatory as well.
The Getty has great views and is worth the visit even if you don't care for the art. Dan mentioned the Huntington Library in San Marino. Not much p-car content there, but a very nice place for a visit. The Norton Simon museum in Pasadena is also a great place for a stop. Not sure how much you're willing to drive, but if you're willing to travel and are into jets, the March Air Reserve base has a SR-71 blackbird on display among other things, the California Science Center also has a SR-71, there is a SR-71 and an A-12 at Blackbird park in Palmdale and the Mojave Airport with the miles and miles of mothballed jets is out past Palmdale as well. (Can you tell where I went when I first moved to LA?) Good day trips can be had north to Santa Barbara and south to La Jolla and San Juan Capistrano. Lots of exoticar dealerships and shops around. Autogallery is north toward the Mullholland roads and always seems to have interesting things in the showroom.

Two more I almost forgot:
- The Nethercutt collection in Sylmar. - The Reagan Presidential Library in Simi - The display of Air Force One is worth the trip.

As an outsider and tourist with several trips under my belt here's what I'd say.
Getty Museum is awesome if you're into that stuff - view and architecture is amazing. Drive whataver you have through Beverly Hills and up onto Mulholland. Have a drink with your wife at Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica some night. Eat fish taco's at...can't remember, in long Beach. Rent a bike and ride Venice Beach. Dream about winning the lottery. John

Check out Heritage Classics on Santa Monica. A free car show. I think the road has finally been finished.
http://www.heritageclassics.com/contactus.html Good eats in the area. Yea, Yea fish tacos. But the best ones are in San Diego. Otto's in Venice. He's just a nice guy.

1. Petersen Museum on Fairfax and Wilshire.
2. Getty Museum off of the 405 and Sunset. Great view. 3. Getty Museum on PCH in Pacific Palisades. Great setting. Just reopened after over 10 years closed. 4. Lunch at the beach. Maybe Gladstones near the Getty. 5. Agree with Dan, Huntington Library. Incredible gardens including Japenese, desert, palm, etc. 6. If you have not been to LA before, you might want to do the touristy stuff: Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Sunset Blvd, Hollywood Blvd, Melrose Ave, etc. Including visits to Rodeo, the Beverly Wilshire Hotel (great bathrooms), Grahman's Chinese Theater, Santa Monica Pier, Marina del Rey (Fisherman's Village), etc. Good luck and enjoy. ;-) Allow time for the traffic ... ;-(

Go have dinner at Captain Kidds Fish Market at Redondo Pier then drive up the coast highway along Hermosa Beach to and go to a Comedy club there. Then go along south towards Newport Beach and catch all the exotic cars there.

You can't visit LA and not go to Amoeba Music on Sunset Boulevard.

And if you get tired of the bright lights and traffic of the big city, swing up this way. The coast and costal mountains from Malibu north is some of the real beauty of SoCal.
PM if you do, could get you a free lunch.
