Osborn and 250 College Prez to Eliminate Beer Ads During NCAA - What a Joke!

So there is legislation going forth to ban beer ads during the NCAA Basketball tourney. What a bunch of crap! Why do I think there is a few things at play here?
1) The right wants to legislate mortality (btw – I am a Republican but am getting concerned)
2) The various College Perz’ want to ban beer ads showing that the ads during the NCAAs do infact influence market trends (just look at the decline in beer sales due to the fact that the NCAA banned beer ads for 2006.) This will allow them to command a higher premium next year for ads to the influence they have.

Let me get this straight, the NCAA banned it. Where is the US legislation banning it? I think it would be bad if they decide they do not want to air an add, and are forced into doing so.

Didn't the NCAA get a bunch of money for the rights to televise the games? Where do they think that money comes from?

Seriously? I though college students were above the influence of advertising when it came to alcohol. I know I used to drink my fair share during March Madness, regardless of what was advertised.

Personally, I don't believe that ads influence my purchases but they do influence some demos. Enough research has been done that proves this out. Play enough branding and pretty soon it invades your choices - couple that with a sale or promo and before you know it a nice bump in market share ensues.

But here is how it plays out - they ban the ads, it influences the sales, this empowers them and they command more per rate - at the same time taking a moral stand that plays to the right while increasing revenue. I like the duality of it all. What do they call that...oh ya - a win win.
