I'm not weighing in on the animal issue at all, it's the social ineptitude that I'm taking issue with. He would have been much better off saying,

"I realize that most of you are kidding, at least I hope you are; but please realize that some of us are very sensitive to remarks made about animals and you may unintentionally offend someone."

Attacking people is hardly an effective means of helping them see your point of view.

Cats are not on the "Endangered Species List" but many, many animals are. Lots of other life-forms are dying because of man-made problems such as not spaying, or neutering pets.
The oceans are depleted with "Clear-cut fishing" (Dredging) with huge nets so that pet food can be made.
However, this BBS is about Porsche stuff and so...................

OK I take back my over the top approach...I was just sitting there this morning with my cat peacefully purring on my chest... and saw some of the comments and posts on this thread and my language got a little forceful. Sorry if this offended anyone.

The original thread starter didnt intend to kick off a cat bashing orgy (though he did make a stupid joke)...but that is always inevitable as cats somehow are a threat to certain fragile male psyche for some reason or another.

BTW...I have car covers on my 911s when sitting in the garage at my apartment complex. Easy and cheap solution to protecting the car paint. Ask your wife to buy you one Jack!

I go away for a couple days and look what happens!

FIRST, as Ryan pointed out this was an attmept at humor - apparently a poor one judging from the open hostility it resulted in.

Believe me, when I came home to find my then 6 month old Lab sitting on the roof of my old 944 and the next week found him in the yard chewing on the front license plate off my girlfriend's Audi TT I was more than a little torqued out of shape. He is alive and well, I didn't give him to the dog pound or beat him or anything. Geeez

My dogs have their own bedroom and I have adopted several from the local spca. As much as I love animals, it amazes me that some people put them above the health, welfare, and consideration of other human beings.

Cats have only one use for humans A.F.D. Automated Food Dispenser. Any appearance of affection is simply an attempt at activating the aforementioned A.F.D.

The problem with a bbs or Email is that no one can tell if comments are just ironic or more serious. In person you can see the speaker's face; by phone you can hear voice inflections.

True, but then to react so strongly can only set in motion a set of strong reactions. Believe me, I know. I have been the one to express a strong reaction in the past and I've been called out about it...and from "the man" too! I'll leave it at that but, lvSteveH's picture - despite its questionable taste - is not only funny but pretty accurate (and yes, I still think it is funny despite nothing but empathy for developmentally disabled persons).

Its why talkradio works. Just say something outrageous and sit back and wait for all the pent up confusion, frustration, anger and emotion to come venting out.....which only perpetuates another round of...? confusion, frustration, anger and emotion. Hence, ratings and MONEY.

To return to the original post. Don't hurt the cat, it had no intention of damaging anything it was just trying to keep from sliding off the car.
