Anyone ever detail strip their SIG?
My trusty P220 has about 10 yrs. on the clock and 10k rounds down the chute. Last time out I was getting a failure to eject about once per magazine. I got a few FTF's too. I did some searching around and it turns out I should have changed the springs around 3k rounds. So I ordered a new spring kit, got the SIG Armorer's DVD and went to work.
Here's how it looked: Totally nude: I forgot to take photos while I had the breach block, firing pin and extractor out. But the new springs installed sure make this gun feel a lot tighter. I think the slide takes at leats 3x as much force to rack back now. Can't wait to put a hundred rounds through her later in the week.

Not a Sig but I spent a couple of hours looking at, disasembling and reassembling an assortment of M1911's yesterday afternoon.
Great fun and quite informative too. I should be taking delivery sometime about two weeks from now. Yes, there will be gun porn pic's, don't worry.

I have a 1911 being built for me by CCR now. Should have it any day now.

For the FTFs change your magazine springs also. Check the lips for wear. FTEs, usually the ejector get pounded short, or the extractor spring gets weak. Gun parts have a finite life, either time or rounds. Especially springs. A spring kit is like buying a new gun!

I thought about that, but I was jusing four magazines, two of which are about 2 mos. old. The originals are as old as the gun and the FTF's happened with all mags. I'll do some thorough testing later in the week.

That's not totally nude! You left the magazine catch in!
The only pistols I've detail stripped were 1911s, and clones thereof. I swapped the trigger out on my previous SA 1911A1 Milspec. Not a difficult job. I'm glad I like to tinker and (usually) get things put back together in working order...

I did take the mag. catch out, but put it back in when I saw how tiny that spring was, before I thought to take a photo.

Noah, I've already started compiling the websites for doing this to "an" M4. It will be done and will be sparkly clean. I'll order a batch of .223 from lancerammo.com pretty soon too.

Cool, i love Sigs and old Walters. Got a trusty 228 that i just put night sights on about 2 hrs ago.
I replaced all the springs on my 30 year old PPKS. Learnt a lot about the gun in the process. German engineering in da house. Yah.

You'll get years and years more service from your pistil if you strip it down and R/R it. Springs, circlips, etc... can all wear down and it's better to avoid a failure! Good job!
