More riots in gay Paris...oui oui!
 PARIS (Reuters) - Protesters and police geared up for mass demonstrations across France on Saturday as pressure mounted on the conservative government to cancel a new law that students and unions fear will undermine job security. Trade unions and left-wing parties will join students in the demonstrations, bringing numbers, organizational talent and leading opposition figures to a movement that has created a serious crisis for Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin. **snip** The First Job Contract (CPE), which Villepin rammed through parliament without debate, aims to fight youth unemployment by easing job protection for workers under 26, a step meant to spur hiring among bosses wary of taking on new staff. Critics reject this as a "Kleenex contract" because young workers could be fired without explanation — "thrown away like a paper tissue," they say — during their first two years. They demand full job protection after a short trial period. French trade unions usually defend only their members, who are protected by strong labor laws, but have hooked up with the students now out of fear that the new contract could be the first step toward undermining their more privileged status. You'd be proud of me Mull. I started a post on another site frequented by frogs on this very topic. They were falling all over themselves calling me a facist SOB for suggesting the law was a good idea.
Thats about the time I called them "A bunch of lazy franco f*ckbags". It got damn fun after that.

I read that it's also business school students that are protesting from so called respectible U's. All workers in general and the politicans feed off of job protection. It's an issue that wins elections. An article I read a few years ago said major amounts of talent leave France for better job opportunity and better paying jobs. Old Europe never figured out why Ireland is an economic success.
They do have a nice language. Some French girl said to me once "Oui oui". I said to her "Not in this car".

North Dakota News
This text is from a County Emergency Manager out in the western part of North Dakota state after the recent snow storm. WEATHER BULLETIN Up here in the Northern Plains we just recovered from a historic event --- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44 inches of snow, and winds to 90 mph that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to tens of thousands. FYI: George Bush did not come... FEMA did nothing.... No one howled for the government... No one blamed the government... No one even uttered an expletive on TV... Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit... Our Mayors did not blame Bush or anyone else... Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else either... CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC did not visit - or report on this Category 5 snow storm... Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards... No one asked for a FEMA trailer house... No one looted... Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something... Nobody expected the government to do anything either... No Larry King, no Bill O'Reilly, no Oprah, no Chris Mathews and no Geraldo Rivera... No Sean Penn, no Barbara Streisand, no Hollywood types to be found... Nope. We just melted the snow for water... Sent out caravans of SUVs to pluck people out of snow-engulfed cars. The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask a penny. Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snowbound families... Families took in the stranded people - total strangers... We fired up wood stoves... Broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns... We put on an extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die" We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for "sittin' at home" checks... Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early... we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves... In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evaporate... It does seem that way, at least to me.. I hope this gets passed on... Maybe SOME people will get the message... The world does NOT owe you a living...

Those folks in that area have a pioneer survivalist spirit rarely found elsewhere. Very big on basic work ethic...they don't play until all the work is done. And as was said, they are always there for each other. Hot and humid in summer, wicked cold in winter. Their hearts are huge and always open. Responsible and friendly folks, they are. No whiners! . ps I can guarantee that that restaurant food was free.
