Poetry gurus -- counterpart to "She walks in beauty?"
Years ago, I memorized "She walks in beauty like the night" as a wonderful piece to use when I need to impress a dark-haired girl. Now I'm looking for the light-haired counterpart poem. "She walks in beauty like the noon-time sun of humid climes and tropic beaches" just lacks the pizazz, somehow. I'd settle for a good "general purpose" romantic poem, but nothing I've found really has the power of "She walks in beauty."
Any thoughts?

all at once here's a girl with blonde hair,
in her presence, all i do is stare, i take lucky matter in hand, and soon on her back she will land, in stroke she'll see how deeply i care.. i recommend crooning it to her over a bottle of fine 'cribari' sparkling champagne.. ![]() ryan

"What color are her eyes?" I always hate that question. It seems that whenever I'm close enough to really examine someone's eyes, the last thing on my mind is to note the color of her eyes.
Seahawk, you're right. The best of that collection is reminiscent of Vogon poetry -- "Ode to a Piece of Fungus I Found on my Toe" an' all that rot. Blech, but good effort. bigchillcar -- good call, I'll recite that winner for her. ![]() I may just be SOL on poetry; she's already hooked, so it's probably moot, but it seemed like it would be a nice gesture. And it's a question I've been thinking for a few years, anyway.

Why does the poem have to be specific to her appearance? Most chicks would be so impressed w/ a guy who can pull off poetry that it should be all over but the crying. (So to speak).

Good question, Denis. Can you point to any reasonably romantic poetry that's non-appearance specific? I'd hate to use "she walks with beauty" on a light-haired girl -- I mean, here's me, waxing rapturously poetic about a dark-haired girl, while sitting face to face with a blonde. I'm willing to experiment, but I can't imagine it'd work that well.

I always liked "To You," from Uncle Walt. It has the bonus feature that he was surely writing it for a young man, but I can tell you that the ladies love it. I don't like the last stanza, and leave it out. YMMV
![]() To You Poem lyrics of To You by Walt Whitman. Whoever you are, I fear you are walking the walks of dreams, I fear these supposed realities are to melt from under your feet and hands; Even now, your features, joys, speech, house, trade, manners, troubles, follies, costume, crimes, dissipate away from you, Your true Soul and Body appear before me, They stand forth out of affairs--out of commerce, shops, law, science, work, forms, clothes, the house, medicine, print, buying, selling, eating, drinking, suffering, dying. Whoever you are, now I place my hand upon you, that you be my poem; I whisper with my lips close to your ear, I have loved many women and men, but I love none better than you. O I have been dilatory and dumb; I should have made my way straight to you long ago; I should have blabb'd nothing but you, I should have chanted nothing but you. I will leave all, and come and make the hymns of you; None have understood you, but I understand you; None have done justice to you--you have not done justice to yourself; None but have found you imperfect--I only find no imperfection in you; None but would subordinate you--I only am he who will never consent to subordinate you; I only am he who places over you no master, owner, better, God, beyond what waits intrinsically in yourself. Painters have painted their swarming groups, and the centre figure of all; From the head of the centre figure spreading a nimbus of gold-color'd light; But I paint myriads of heads, but paint no head without its nimbus of gold-color'd light; From my hand, from the brain of every man and woman it streams, effulgently flowing forever. |

She's got a smile that it seems to me
Reminds me of childhood memories Where everything Was as fresh as the bright blue sky Now and then when I see her face She takes me away to that special place And if I'd stare too long I'd probably break down and cry Sweet child o' mine ...Sweet love of mine She's got eyes of the bluest skies As if they thought of rain I hate to look into those eyes And see an ounce of pain Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place Where as a child I'd hide And pray for the thunder And the rain To quietly pass me by Sweet child o' mine ...Sweet love of mine Where do we go Where do we go now Where do we go Sweet child o' mine (what red blooded girl can resist Guns n Roses?)

In case anybody cares, a little follow-up. I found one. Robert Burns, "Red, Red Rose." Intended to be delivered with a half-smile, in a thick Scottish accent and a Scottish flat-cap. Operational testing was performed in the field last night, with satisfactory results.
Oh, me luve's like a red, red rose, That's newly sprung in June. Oh, me luve's like a melody That's sweetly played in tune. As fair art thou, me bonnie lass, So deep in luve am I. And I weel luve thee steel, my dear, Till all the seas gang dry. Till all the seas gang dry, my dear, And the rocks melt wi' the sun. And I weel luve thee steel, my dear, While the sands o' life do run. So fare thee weel, me only luve, And fare thee weel a while, For I will come again, me luve, Though i'twer ten thousand mile.
