Exclamation Downloading large files

I want to download a fairly large (290 MB) file using FileShack or any other downloading sites. The problem is, is that the download will start great, and continue downloading at about ~460 KB/s for about 4 minutes, and then the dowload just randomly stops. I have spent 3 hours trying to download this flie last night, but the download never gets past 40% and just hangs up. Why is this happening? Here is what the screen looks like when the download hangs up:

I always have had this trouble as well. I am using a wireless internet connection by Linksys and using Comcast.

There are lots of 3rd party download tools available, even as browser plugings.

Matt,

To take Thom's idea a bit further, try something like GetRight.

This is a download manager that takes control of your downloads. It allows you to pick up where you left off in the download process, should your connection be lost, etc.

This version is free from Downloads.com. There is a version you can purchase which provides more functionality.

I have that same problem only when useing a wireless link.

It was like my wireless AP would crap out for about 30 seconds if I were downloading a big file. Then you would have to start over. Try it with a wire and see what it does.

have you looked for a torrent of that patch? I bet it'd be way faster.

I tried the GetRight program and I really don't know how to download through that other than via URL. I tried direct wire, and that didn't work. Thanks for the suggestions, but I just give up! Bryan, what's a torrent patch?

Go to this link via Firefox. Don't use IE. Then get Bit Comet . You should be able to get what you want. Shhh, I didn't say anything!

EDIT: Reverse the download order.
