Keep it going, dude, I'm having a great time reading this nonsense. :) Why is it that non-x-ians feel the intense need to post this stuff, anyway? When did I come knocking on your door? When did I send you church-spam? |

Face it - folks are tired of extremist nutbags of any ilk - Jesus freaks included. |
Victor, I'll agree with you -- that's sick.
Still, how does one man's wrong allow you to attack everyone who has a similar belief? That's like a guy who hates black guys because his mother was once mugged by one. You're better than that, Victor, but your hatred of so-called nutbags is driving you to become one, just at the other extreme. |
My favorite saying recently is "God, save me from your followers."
Sort of liked the bumper sticker "Christian Right is Neither" too. |
Djm - please don't get me wrong, I have no gripe with anyone based on their choice of faith - its always the 1%ers that give any group a bad name. Consider my "hatred" directed toward them and not the broader flock of sheep or yourself for that matter.
If you consider my posting this mildly interesting/amusing article an "attack" then maybe you need to grow some thicker skin and be thankful christians are no longer being fed to lions. To someone like me, the "Jesus walks on ice" theory is just as silly as "Jesus walked on water" - both equally deserving of ridicule. You need to respect this way of thinking as much as you receive the same from me. |
Well, you're probably right, Victor, I'm probably too thin skinned. Thanks for posting some entertaining material, anyway.

Victor, if they told your daughter that, it was because they believe it to be true and they believe it to be the word of god.
You obviously don't believe it and don't like it. fine, that's your business. I disagree with you, and that is my business. I don't tell people they need to believe what I believe, I normally don't share my beliefs unless someone asks or starts saying that what I believe is wrong. As far as that goes, it seems that it is becoming more and more popular to bash christians on this board. That is ironic because the only time it comes up is when a non-believer starts spewing ideas that go against christianity and Christians reply to defend Christ or the bible. Just like this post. Someone posted about some guy who said Jesus didn't walk on water. Fine. I don't agree but i let it go. Then others jumped on the band wagon and started saying the bible is not accurate and that christians are wrong. That is when the debate started heating up. If people here are tired of reading about christianity, stop posting negatively about it and the topic won't come up. If someone says something negative about christianity you can bet that others will disgree strongly and say so. BTW, there was a time when I did not believe in god. I made jokes and ridiculed those who had the faith just as many of you are doing. Since then I experienced what I believe to be absolute indisputable proof that God does exist. There is absolutely no doubt and it has nothing to do with man's needs. I am a mechanical engineer and a person who prides himself on logic and science but the proof is so strong that I cannot deny it. That is why my faith is so strong. |
Sammy, you're obviously not the guy the "Christian bashers" are talking about. I probably speak for most of these guys when I say I respect ANYONE's personal decisions on faith - Muslim, Jew, Hare Krishna, Tibetan Monk, you name it. The problem is the proselytizing and how it creeps into areas that need to remain secular (schools, laws, etc). Proselytizing, while not exclusive to Christianity, is what turns off a lot of folks to Christianity. Yeah, I see the Falun Gong nuts in their yellow hats, handing out literature every week in DC. But the guys who come knocking on doors and try to get morality laws passed are almost always some sect of the Christian faith. And that tends to earn some enemies.

The first step towards preventing 'xtian bashing' is to stop the non-xtian bashing, ie telling us we're going to hell, yada yada yada. |

Just because you don't understand something does not make it untrue...
Much like sammyg2 their was a time when I questioned if God existed. Being trained in the disciplines of engineering, which include physics, thermodynamics, hydraulics and others I found it hard to explain in my mind these type of "miracles". The common man knows without these sciences that it is physically impossible for a man to walk on water. It has taken years for me to come to the point that I now can strongly say that I now know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Jesus walked on water. I can't make you believe that, You have to investigate it for yourself, if you search for truth you will find it. Oh yeah, at the same time whilst seeking truth I obtained my PHD! [B]Here’s my theory. Religion meets a number of basic human needs...... Kang, this is real close to how I feel. But take your thought a little farther. Evolution is based on survival of the fittest. Religion has been with man all along, making him "fitter" by providing the basic human needs you describe. (I would add more to your needs list... Religion enables an individual man overcome his instinct of self-preservation for the benefit of his community - thereby furthering the success of the community) Religion has evolved as man has evolved. Man has been able to evolve because of religion. The god of our religions is the god we need to be civilized. We need god. |

What if you search for the "truth", but do not find it? Does that not cast doubt upon your whole premise? Many, many Christians have devoted their lives to "searching for the truth" only to ultimately turn away from Christianity as false. Did they not search correctly? Did they not search diligently enough? Maybe if you search you might find truth...or you might not? Maybe the definition of "truth" is variable in this instance. Mike |
I have two children, one 12 and one seven.
Both are well aware of the beiefs of other religions and of those who do not agree with their faith. They attend a private Lutheran school where diversity and acceptance is taught, not seclusion. They are taight that people who don't believe in God or Christ are still god's children and must be loved and respected because that is what Jesus said to do. If I asked my 7 year old son what Muslims thought about Christians, he would be able to explain accurately and in great detail the differences in the two religions, and also the similarities. If someone my kids were told that they were going to burn in hell because of thier beliefs they would simply say that isn't true, they will be saved because Jesus told them so in the bible. Knowledge and understanding are the best gifts we can give children. They both know that the easter bunny and sanata claus don't exist. At an early age they were taught that those are pagan symbols. On Christmas we celebrate the birth of Christ, not santa claus. On Easter we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, not a furry animal who delivers colored eggs. |
Kang, I attempted to answer your question about proof that God exists privately but you have elected not to recieve e-mails or private messages.
