Windows media center / dvr

Anyone using WMC as a dvr? Bought a new sony viao desktop a few months back, has everything but a tv tuner card. Wanted to know how well it works before I spend the dollars on the new card.

Thanks!

Most of the people that I've heard of making their own DVR use Linux.

i had a hard time getting the pic and sound to sync. kung fu movie syndrome. still using WMC but have gotten a DVR thru time-warner. easier than viewing comp on big screen when i wanted playback. this was WMC first version, i hope the second has been improved

Media Center 2005 works pretty good from everything I've seen.

I just finished building a new machine with it for my house, but I haven't got cable in that room just yet.

A friend has been running it for a while though, and he has the Media Center machine itself in the computer room, and then uses it through an Xbox with media center extender and a wireless network.

I have never noticed any audio sync problems or anything, the only thing that I find slightly annoying is that sometimes the navigation screens are a little laggy, but he says that's more an Xbox thing and the main rig doesn't do that. Xbox360 is supposed to be better with Media Center since it's so much faster.

I used the 2005 version in my bedroom and was happy with the picture sound. The Sony VAIO POS fan was too loud and had to be moved to another location.
