Legit work from home jobs?

Anyone know a good source for work from home job listings? My wife has her bachelors in accounting, and has worked from home for her current firm for two years. Unfortunately her boss is the most demeaning and condescending a-hole I have ever met, and we're both tired of the abuse that she takes on a daily basis. So, she needs something else, but would prefer to continue working from home. On careerbuilder and others there's always listings for work from home companies, but they always want you to send in money for an "info kit", which just sounds like a fancy way to say scam. Anybody know of any legit companies, or sources for legit companies? Any help would be greatly appreciated, before I snap and go pay him a visit.

I only know industry specific, not global, sources for work at home listings...I use MTdaily and MTstars for recruiting medical transcribers. This, unfortunately, is a career that requires not only great typing skills, and computer savvy, but a rather large vocabulary of medical terminology...There are companies that will take a totally green transcriber on and pay them $.04 per line, and then work up to .08 to .10 per line...Pretty good money once you have paid your dues.

I'm currently taking classes to become certified as a Medical Transcriptionist. I would like to work from home as well, and was looking for a career that would incorporate my typing skills, as well as something in the medical field. It may not be for everyone, but it definitely is a great field to get into.

One of my wife's relatives does that, but I think she has an associate's degree specifically in medical transcription. Pretty good deal, she works entirely from home and gets paid well.

In home bookkeeper and tax preparer for small business owners? Ad in the local paper would solve that..

Of course, this is dependent on your salary requirements -

That was my first suggestion, but she doesn't want the responsibility or risk. Without a doubt what I would do if I were in her spot.

It's tough to find work from home accouting work "off the bat" for a new employer, unless the work is self generated.

In a bit over a year I should be full time in an engineering position, at that time she becomes a stay at home mommy. This is just to float us until I'm close to being done with school.

My wife is taking time off from teaching to raise our kids. She does legal deposition summaries for 2 bucks/page. Basically transcribes one page of technical details into a sentence for review by the attorney.

Are you hiring Wayne? She once read over my shoulder about one of your work from home sales advisor positions and remarked, "I'll do that". That is, until I reminded her that she doesn't know anything about Porsches, BMWs, or cars in general. She isn't picky about what she does, just so it pays well enough for us to get by. In truth this entire situation has given her a bad taste in her mouth for accounting, she often remarks that she wishes she got a different degree. It's all out of frustration though, she has a gift for working with numbers. She can read a random phone number once, then remember it a year later. And yet, I can barely remember our anniversary and her birthday.

Brad, any idea if your wife's company is hiring?

Unfortunately no, she works for an individual and there is not much opportunity for anyone besides her. However, there is definately a need for this. A lot of the time, this kind of work goes to paralegals, so if your wife were willing to take a couple of law courses and get familier with the process, I'd bet she could land some work. Heck, I have even done some them My wife has been doing it for 5 years, hence, the good pay. She can whip thru 50-75 pages/hour if she is focused, or about 100-150/hour. Being the litigious society that we are, anything related to the legal profession can pull in some coin.

Brad, thanks for the info. My mom has a cleaning business, but it's starting to wear on her and she's looking for a change. That sounds like something to look into.

1wp, I'll throw out a crazy idea ... is it possible she could become a full time mommy now? How much "tightening of the belt" would it take to make that a reality? It's only for one year, you mentioned. I'm only asking because I've known some couples who were in similar situations. They discovered they were happier with one parent home full-time, even though they had to make some sacrifices.

That's essentially the direction that we're moving, but slowly. As the working from home probably won't pan out, we're hoping to find her a part time job where she can just work mornings, then be at home during the rest of the day. I can work full time over summers and breaks, but only 20 hrs a week or so during the semester. We've resigned ourselves to making it work, situations like this are what you have savings for, right? It really is a case of her happiness, and well worth the sacrifices.

Plenty of CPA per deim work with a specialty track record available around here paying big bucks.

also Sabrienes-Oxley sic created tons of CPA work.

IBM has many home workers. The latest info around in general is that home workers are more efficient than office workers.

CPA projects are hr intensive around here. If she's into real estate there is a lack of Section 8 housing CPAs country wide. The paperwork is specialized and convoluted needing intensive detail work to meet gov't regulations.

good luck.
