Gingrich's liberal views

Yikes, he removed his tinfoil hat for just a few minutes and the Liberals took over his brain.

Gingrich at USD: Scale back to small force in Iraq (video)

Ex-House speaker says U.S. made "enormous mistake" in occupation

VERMILLION - Newt Gingrich, the former Republican Speaker of the House, told students and faculty at the University of South Dakota Monday that the United States should pull out of Iraq and leave a small force there, just as it did post-war in Korea and Germany.

"It was an enormous mistake for us to try to occupy that country after June of 2003," Gingrich said during a question-and-answer session at the school. "We have to pull back, and we have to recognize it."

Interesting what some conservative politicians have to say when they're not under pressure to tow the party line.

Gingrich is seeking the Republican nomination. He has gone hard right on immigration and left on the war.

Newt is far from an orthodox Republican. He has a lot of off-the-wall ideas that sorta defy party label. I saw him speak at the Press Club a while back and beforehand his folks handed out transcripts of his speech. When I saw it was all about Medicare and Medicaid, I almost got up and left. Actually, it was one of the best speeches I've seen and I was really into it the whole time he spoke and took questions. He is 100% running for president BTW. My company distibutes his press releases, otherwise, no affiliation.

Breaking: Newt Gingrich is now saying that the Argus misreported his statements. He contends that the reporterette left and/or missed the whole speech.

If you read his philosophy and congressional voting record, He's not the hard core conservative he was made out to be in the 90s. Very smart and well spoken, i.e. opposite of Bush. I would vote for him if he's on the Republican ticket in '08.

Newt is as smart as they come, probably too smart to ever become president. I've hung out with him many times and he's the nicest guy in the world too - nothing like the media portrayed him back in the mid-90's.

One is hated by the left to the degree one is effective. Gingrich was very hated.

He promised to do 10 things, and did nine of them. Astonishing, really. But he’ll never be president. His sort of assertive intelligence doesn't wear well.

Seems like another member of the Rep orchestra channeling heat onto Bush and catering to the voters? Maintaining the majority in congress is critical to Bush imo.

Just another Republican who thought with his dick instead of his head.

His contract on America was a notorious disaster. I'd love to see him run. Second choice would be Giuliani. Either would assure a Democratic victory.

Gingrich power is not in winning himself an election but in introducing issues that the Reps should jump on. Whoever wants to run against Hillary has to be prepared.

That must have been why Clinton adopted portions of the Contract, and called it his own with the help of his media friends...Balanced budget and welfare reform, off the top of my head.

Let's see, the Contract "on" America included 10 simple things that Newt promised the Congress would vote on in the first 100 days of that session. They voted on all of them in around 94 days and the only one that didn't pass the House was term limits.

Tech, what was so bad about it? Clinton promised welfare reform even before Newt and Haley Barbour came up with the Contract. But Bubba did nothing about it. When the Congress passed it anyway, he vetoed it not once, but twice and then still signed it before the '96 election just to take an issue of the table. If that's not pure BS politics, I don't know what is.

What were some of the others you objected to? Banning unfunded mandates? Requiring Congress to live under the same laws it passes for everyone else? Cut committee staff by 1/3? Ban proxy voting? Requiring a super majority for raising taxes? Passing a balanced budget amendment?

What's so horrible about any of those and why do you call it a Contract "on" America?

Nor did he suborn perjury, perjure, obstruct justice, violate his oath of office, abuse his power, show contempt of court, assault the Constitution, pattern sexual harrass, or drag the country through mud, or squander taxpayer monies to the tune of +70 mil.

Well, because it was just stupid politicians' games. Take the first 'promise' of the contract: Fiscal Responsibility.

How's that working out, now that the Repubs. have been in control of the executive and legislative branches for 5+ years?

I'll help you with your answer:

Gingrich had a girlfriend while married and during the Clinton Whitewater/BJ witchunt.

Henry Hyde took his mistress to the impeachment hearings.

Rudy Giuliani left the wife home with the kids and flaunted an affair with a business associate.

Bob Barr -- serial cheater who allegedly forced an abortion on his second wife while having a long-term affair.

"B-1" Bob Dornan: not only cheated on her but also beat his wife.

Daddy Bush -- reported to have had a mistress named "Jennifer" by that reliable witness, Linda Tripp.

Like most cornerstone 'facts' Republicans "know" the idea that only Democrats cheat is as wrong as the idea that Republicans are 'fiscally conservative.'
