Ford Motor Co. (F)

Ford is struggling. The stock closed today at $6.96.

So, is the stock a bargain or will they bust?

Any opinions?

I'm buying it, but as a Ford employee I am frustrated in the short term, but in the long term, I think the stock (and the company) will do well. I like to "buy low" and "sell high", but I don't plan on selling my Ford stock for awhile...

I would think if you were ever considering buying Ford stock, now would be the time to back up the truck and load up. *beep* *beep* *beep*

I rode it once too and did pretty good. I bought at about 8 and sold at 14 made some nice money on that. I rolled it into Sprint hearing they were developing the Push to Talk thing like Nextel. Shortly after that Nextel bought them. My $8 stock shot up to $25. Wish I had bought more.

I was going to dump everything and buy Velero. I might take a chunk and grab some F too.

I don't see a bankruptcy in Fords future.

I don't see how GM could possibly avoid one.

As long as Americans continue to buy gas-guzzlers, F and GM will always have a chance. I honestly see no relief for either company in the next 2 years.

Plus side: price/book
Minus side: insane debt levels

The Japanese auto makers with plants in the US have a HUGE advantage being relatively new to the marketplace and not paying hundreds of thousands of retirees benefits. How can the US automakers respond other than screwing over employees who were loyal to them over a lifetime for the promise of a worry-free old age?

Absolutely spot on, Wayne. IMO, GM is the worst styling offender in America.

A key rule in trading stock: never try to buy at the bottom. Look for the start of a move upward.

At present, I don't see any good market reasons for Ford to improve, aside from their commitment to cutting overhead.

I currently have some Ford shares but I bought close to $10 a share so I am holding them for now. I don't think they will go bankrupt and if they do they would sell off other divisions such as Volvo first.

Unlike GM, if Ford goes bankrupt, it passes out of family control. That won't be enough to stem the tide if it's too strong, but you have to figure the Ford family will do everything within their means to avoid bankruptcy.

I wish I saw some product coming out of Ford that would encourage me to buy its stock, but unfortunately I don't

Wouldn't it have been nice to buy a little Toyota about 3 years ago...

Which leads me to my next question...if Toyota is hovering around $115 a share, when might it split? Obviuously it splits when the company feels the price per share is more than the investor is willing to pay...but any predictions as to if or when they might?

Once again, what Turbo6 said. I personally think the short term will be like watching paint dry though. If you're looking for some action - there are other options.

Scratch that. Stay out.

Best of luck either way.

Still what Turbo6 said though.
